NOTICES

Timeout is our new monthly event for families – It takes place at the Old Greyhound Inn once a month from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on a Saturday. The next one is Saturday, 19th November. There will be games for the children, spaces for adults to chat or watch TV (football results ...!), time to eat and time to pray. Come and enjoy yourselves!

Advent Service of Light – Do join us for this lovely candlelit service at 6.30 p.m. on Sunday, 27th November, at St Cuthbert’s Church. With great singing from the choir, it’s a lovely way to start the Christmas preparation season.

Funding Programme – The programme is drawing to a close and the final result should be announced by the end of November. Our thanks are due to the hard work of the visitors. If you still have to complete your forms, it would be helpful if they could be returned to Roger Hickling by the 20th November. If you still have a query, please contact David Webster on 0116 259 3717.

We welcome Sophie Clark who has volunteered to help the church for an hour a week for three months as part of her bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. Sophie is coming after school on Friday afternoons but may be available at other times so if there are any suitable tasks you would like Sophie to help with, please get in touch with the Vicar.

Sunday Breakfast at St Cuthbert’s Church – We will not be able to have our monthly Sunday Breakfast on the second Sunday of November as the church will be full of chairs for the Remembrance Service. The only other Sunday in November where both 8.30 and 10.30 services are at Glen is the 20th November when Mary will be in Somerset for her grandson’s baptism. Would anyone be willing to organise breakfast in church that day?

God, the Universe and Everything (The Bishop’s Lay Congress 2011) is on Saturday, 26th November, from 9.30 a.m. until 3.45 p.m. at The Samworth Enterprise Academy, Trenant Road, Leicester, LE2 6TF. Are science and Christianity compatible? Spend a day looking at how Christianity and science relate to each other. Places are free. To book yourself a place, please email Claire Stapleton at St Martins House, Claire.Stapleton@LecCofE.org with your full name, postal address, the church you worship at and your workshop choice or call 0116 261 5317.

Great Glen Village Hall Film Shows – The next film show which is “It’s a Wonderful Life” is on Saturday, 17th December, at 2.30 p.m. Tickets cost £4. and are on sale approximately three weeks before the show date at the Post Office. All profits go to the Village Hall funds.

Items for the Parish Magazine – Please contact Dirne Spearing on 279 3311 or by email at insideoutgg@hotmail.co.uk

Cards for Good Causes – The Charity Christmas Card Shop was officially opened in Leicester Cathedral on Monday, 24th October. The shop is open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Mondays to Saturdays and will remain open until Wednesday, 14th December. At least 75p in every £1 from card sales is donated to about 25 national and local charities. The shop also sells a wide range of gifts suitable for all ages and items suitable for stocking fillers, wrapping paper and Advent Calendars. Please go along to support your favourite charity.

Angels Fayre at St Wilfrid’s Church, Kibworth on 3rd December from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. – Christmas decorations, cakes, sweets, books, cards, and lots more. For children, there will be a bran tub, face painting, craft corner plus a competition for the “Most Imaginative Angel”. A complete Angel Fiesta raising funds for Overseas Literacy Campaign as well as contributing to church activities. Adults 50p, children free.

A Candlelit Concert takes place on the 26th November at St Deny’s Church, Evington at 7.30 p.m. The concert will be given by the Leicester Recorder Players with solos, poems and other musical items. Tickets £6 including mulled wine and mince pies (children under 16 free) from 0116 241 5605.

Please pray:-
• For all who are ill or suffering.
• For those who grieve loved ones.
• For those who died or were injured in the M5 motorway crash.
• For the Children in Need appeal.
• For justice in the global economic system and wisdom for its leaders.
