At Communion Services
If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine. Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing. Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing. If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

NOTICES

£92.92p raised for the Children’s Society at Christingle Service – Thank you to everyone who contributed to this and to making the Christingles and running the service.

Thank you to everyone who has cleaned and polished and decorated our three churches for Christmas, and to our choirs for their singing – it all makes our Christmas services very special.

Mary would like to thank you all for the many lovely Christmas cards she has received. May I wish you all a very Happy Christmas. May I wish you all a very happy Christmas. Thank you so much for all your help and support during the year, and especially while I was away on sabbatical.

St Cuthbert’s Church Porch – Please do read the cards sent to us by our church friends on the notice board above the wooden chest in the porch.

Bishop’s visit to our benefice on 8th January – Bishop Tim will arrive at St Cuthbert’s Church at 9.15 a.m. to join us for breakfast in church (as it is the second Sunday in the month). He will then take the 10.30 a.m. service and afterwards conduct a Question & Answer session during coffee time. We hope that some members of the 10.30 congregation will join the 8.30 congregation for breakfast with the bishop and that parishioners from Burton Overy and Carlton will come to St Cuthbert’s for this special visit.

St Cuthbert’s and Great Glen Methodist Churches held an initial meeting to explore the possibilities of working together to achieve the most effective Christian ministry to the village. These arrangements are commonly known as a Local Ecumenical Partnership (LEO). It was decided to view the process as akin to a young couple beginning a relationship that might or might not end in marriage. The two churches are therefore going to “walk out together/go on some initial dates” by sharing a 10.30 a.m. service each month. These will be as follows:-

Jan 22nd Christian Unity Service at Glen Methodist Church
Feb 12th Holy Communion (CW) at St Cuthbert’s Church
Mar 18th All Age Mothering Sunday Service at St Cuthbert’s Church
April 5th Maundy Thursday Holy Communion at St Cuthbert’s Church (7.30 p.m.)
April 6th Good Friday Devotional Service at Glen Methodist Church (7.30 p.m.)
April 8th Easter Communion service will start at the Methodist Church and process to St Cuthbert’s Church to receive communion
May 13th Christian Aid Service at Glen Methodist Church
June 3rd Jubilee Service at St Cuthbert’s Church

Methodist Stewards and St Cuthbert’s PCC members will meet together as a steering group to regularly review outcomes and continue the discussions. (Next meeting 23rd March)

Children :
1st Sliding into Christmas by Cameron Masters (11)
2nd Darth Moose by Harriet Gill (9) and Freddie Gill (8)
3rd Stoneygate School Candy Christmas

Thank you to all who helped make this year’s Festival another wonderful success.

Church Cleaning at St Cuthbert’s Church – Thank you to all those people who have taken a turn at keeping our church clean and tidy during this year. There is now a new list for people to volunteer to clean the Church during 2012.

Coffee Morning at St Margaret’s Church, Leicester on 7th January 2012 from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. Stalls, raffle and refreshments. Admission free.

Humour is a gift – “Q. What kind of motor vehicles are in the Bible?
A. Jehovah drove Adam and Eve out of the Garden in a Fury. David’s Triumph was heard throughout the land. Also, probably a Honda because the apostles were all in one Accord.”

Please pray:-
• For all who are ill or suffering
• For a joyful Christmas to everyone and a peaceful and prosperous 2012.
• For the lonely, the grieving and others for whom Christmas is not a time of happiness.
• For anyone parted from their families this Christmas, especially members of our armed forces serving in Afghanistan and other dangerous places.

Proverb of the Week: “The godly know the rights of the poor; the wicked don’t care to know.” (Proverbs 29 v 7)
