news in the pews

Sunday 30th June – Second Sunday After Trinity

Collect for Today
Faithful Creator,
whose mercy never fails:
deepen our faithfulness to you
and to your living Word,
Jesus Christ our Lord.

Post Communion Prayer
Loving Father,
we thank you for feeding us at the supper of your Son:
sustain us with your Spirit,
that we may serve you here on earth
until our joy is complete in heaven,
and we share in the eternal banquet
with Jesus Christ our Lord.

NOTICES

TODAY - Sarah’s Ordination
Please remember Sarah in your prayers. She has moved to her new house, completing assignments and preparing to be ordained. There is so much to take in during this time both exciting and scary so I would ask that we as a church would hold her in prayer during this time.
You are invited to join her for an open house and buffet to celebrate her ordination
at 1:30 on the 30th June at her house, 18 Boulton Court, Oadby.

Pork Supper – Tickets on sale now! On Saturday the 6th July we are having our Pork Supper at 2 Stretton Road. This year we want to make the occasion more of a family focused affair so we are looking to start the event from 4.00pm with a children's entertainer at 4.30 - 5.30.
Following this the food will then be served, first to the children. The cost is £10 for adults and £3 for children.
If anyone has a problem with the price please do have a chat with Kim we don’t want anyone left out! In order for the event to happen, though, we need to have an indication of how many are coming or we will have to cancel. There is a sign up sheet at the back of church. We also need people to bring salad or pudding for the night so please do sign up so we can tell if we have enough people to make it happen.

St Cuthbert’s Theology Reading Group - Our St. Cuthbert’s Theology Reading Group invites anyone interested in exploring further their Christian faith/ knowledge, to join us at our monthly house meetings. We
decide on a recommended book, usually by eminent Christian authors, which we read (one or two chapters at a time) and discuss over several meetings. Our discussions are usually lively and informative with the Rev. Philip Norwood giving us an experienced, guiding hand.

Have you ever thought you might want to serve the Lord in some way within the church? There are many ways to get involved both big and small. Here are some of the ways you can at St Cuthbert’s:
·        Bell ringing- we have a great opportunity for people young and old to learn how to ring our lovely bells. If you are interested please speak to Roland Cook.
·        Choir – the choir is looking for new members young or old, experienced or novice, why not have a go? If you are interested please speak to Moira Bartlett.
·        Intercessions- if you like to pray we are looking for more people to intercede during both the 9:15 and 10:45 service. Please speak to Gemma Herrick for 9:15 and Carole Henson for 10:45 if you are interested.
·        Reading- if you like to read we are looking for more readers for our 9:15 and 10:45 services. Talk to Sarah Collins for 9:15 or Amy Cook for 10:45.
·        Sides people- if you love to welcome people we would love to have you on our team at the 10:45 please talk to Amy Cook.
·        Coffee Rota- do you like bringing a smile to people’s faces than why not serve them so lovely coffee in between the two services? Please talk to Kim if you are interested.
·       Sound and Projection - Dave and Simon would love someone to help with sound and projection. When one of them is unavailable they have to manage both by themselves. It is also likely that there maybe a Sunday where they are both committed to volunteering outside the church.  If you are interested please contact Dave Alexander.

QUIET PRAYER AND MEDITATION.
We shall meet again at 3.30pm.on Wednesday, 10th July at our home - 20, Kingfisher Close.
We will just stop again for an hour in a busy world - to meet with God and each other, in an oasis of peace and calm. If you would like to know more, please phone Christine  Higgins on 259 2624 - or just come along. You will be very welcome.

Bibles for year 6 students each year we, as a benefice, give the year 6 students at St Cuthbert’s Primary School a Bible as a leaving gift. In the past there hasn’t been many students but as the school has grown there are now quite a few students. So this year I am asking if people would like to donate the money for a Bible. The cost is £6 per Bible and there are 40 students this year. If you would like to donate money towards the Bibles there is a box at the back of church.

'The Magazine'
Yes, it's time for my quarterly plea for items for the next issue of the church magazine.  The next magazine covers August to October. Please send me your articles, news, views and opinions, in fact anything that may interest others.  It would be lovely to hear from some of our younger members.  So PLEASE whatever your age, put pen to paper. I look forward to hearing from you. Garry -
