News in The pews

Sunday 13th October
Seventeenth Sunday of Trinity

Collect for Today
Gracious God,
you call us to fullness of life:
deliver us from unbelief
and banish our anxieties
with the liberating love of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Post Communion Prayer
Lord, we pray that your grace

and make us continually to be given to all good works;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

'The Magazine'
Another October deadline to think about! As the next edition of the church magazine covers the Christmas and New Year period, it would be nice to produce a 'bumper' edition…
so if you are a regular contributor or have not as yet written anything for the magazine. Please put pen to paper and send me your piece as soon as possible.
Thank you, Garry

Next Week Sunday 20th October
Revd Jon Barrett from Mission and Ministry will be speaking at both the 9:15 and the 10:45 services. The time together will help us get ready and prepare our hearts for the Bishop’s Big Conversation the first weekend in November.

The weekend with the Bishop is a time where we can share our faith with our communities. It is a time to come out of the church and share with others the love of God. So I hope that many of you will join in some of the activities across the weekend and bring along any friends that might want to know it bit more about who God is or why things are happening in our world. No question is too big or too small to ask.
So here is what the weekend will hold:

Please Pray for:
·   Mollie Alexander
·   Elizabeth Tacey
·   Andrew and Mary Porter
·   Baby Willow Coates
·   Christine Higgins
·   Dave and Helen
·   Will Johnson

Friday- 1st Nov

2:00-3:30 Tea & Cake with the Bishop in the village hall in Great Glen. This event is aimed specifically for those who are 60+
4:30 Free Tea and coffee to be served to those waiting for Fish and Chips. The Bishop will be open to answer any questions.
7:15-8:15 Royal Oak, free drink for those in the pub who would like to engage the Bishop with questions that might have.

Saturday- 2nd Nov
9:00-10:15 am Breakfast Buffet at the Pug and Greyhound. Cost is £10 a head but this one is a very specific event. The idea is that if you buy a ticket you will be given a free ticket to bring someone with you who is not a Christian, someone who would like to know more about who God is. There will be breakfast with the Bishop and his team having conversations around the table as we enjoy the meal and then the Bishop will give a short word at the end of the time there.
10:30-12:00 Story time with the Bishop for toddlers and young children in the Community Library. There will be stories, crafts, tea and coffee.
1:00 pm Family Fun Day in Burton Overy starting at Kingarth Diary Farm. We will have a lovely time there with some activities and then walk to the next farm for 2:00 where there are sheep and chickens and different activities. We will finish our day with tea and cakes in the village hall at 3:30 pm.

Sunday 3rd Nov
The Bishop and his team will be joining us for both services.
9:00 am at Carlton Curlieu and
10:30 am at Great Glen. We will have a bring and share lunch after the 10:30 service so please do sign up to bring some food to share. It will be a great way to finish our weekend together.

As you can imagine this is going to take a team effort so please do think about what events you can help at and how you can be a part of this exciting adventure of sharing God’s kingdom with our neighbours and friends.
Advance Notice:
Sunday 27th October, 10:30 am – Team Launch service at St Peter’s Church in Oadby. The bishop will be with all five churches to launch our team. There will be no morning services in Great Glen or Burton Overy as it is important that we all show our support as we go forward as a team together.
