Do you want to be inspired and encouraged? Then come to the Lent Course on Thursday, 18th March, at the Methodist Church Hall (7.30 – 9 p.m.) and hear about God in action! James Briggs will be showing us pictures and telling us about the impact of prayer and practical Christianity on some very rural villages in Zimbabwe.
Women’s World Day of Prayer – Many thanks to all who took part in this service at the Methodist Church on Friday, 5th March.
Stoneygate School Choir are giving a concert at St Cuthbert’s on Wednesday, 17th March. The concert will last about an hour, starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are £5. on the door and tea, coffee and wine will be served after the concert for a small donation. All proceeds to the church.
We warmly welcome Revd Jordan Ling, Curate at St Christopher’s Church, Samworth Enterprise Academy, Leicester, who will be spending two weeks in our benefice as part of her training. She will be with us from Sunday, 7th March to Sunday, 21st March, and she will be delighted to meet you and hear your views about church life in our villages.
St Cuthbert’s Annual Parish Meeting will be held on Sunday, 11th April 2010, in the evening after a short Songs of Praise. If you are interested in being a churchwarden or member of the PCC (Parochial Church Council) for the next year, nomination papers are available at the back of the church and the elections will take place at the Annual Meeting. Please leave completed nomination papers in the envelope provided.
Fund Raising Day for Haiti – Liz Sturgess, who organised this in Burton Overy Village Hall last Sunday, reports that the day raised £1,171.35. She would like to thank all her family, friends and villages, both in Great Glen and Burton Overy, for all their help and support. The money will be sent to Haiti through Tear Fund, a Christian charity. The stock which was left at the end of the day has not been wasted. The few cakes left have been frozen for another charitable event. The soft toys have gone to Glenfield Hospital and the bric-a-brac, clothes and books have gone to Age Concern. Thank you to Liz for her enthusiasm in arranging this.
Leicester Grammar School Choral Concert – Mozart’s Requiem – Pay at the door on Thursday, 25th March, at 7.30 p.m. Admission £8. (Concessions £5.). Come and hear this wonderful work by Mozart and enjoy the chance to see inside the Grammar School! The standard of music at the Grammar School is very high.
Look out for some new cards on sale in church including cards for Easter. These cards support the work of the Mother’s Union in fighting poverty, injustice and tackling family issues both in this country and overseas.
The final Lent Course this year is on 25th March from 7.30 until 9 p.m. at the Methodist Church when Mary will be showing pictures of the Holy Land which she visited last year. It won’t be a succession of pictures of churches as it was the land, its people and its history that fascinated her most!
Holy Week – As in previous years, there will be at St Cuthbert’s Church a half-hour service at 7.30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and the Maundy Thursday Communion service will also be at 7.30 p.m.
Good Friday – There will be the usual All-Age Breakfast & Worship starting at 8 a.m. in Burton Overy Village Hall with plenty of food to enjoy and lots of activities for the children. Do come and join us. If you prefer something more traditional and reflective, then come to the Meditation Service at 2 p.m. at t Cuthbert’s Church. (Please note a Parish Magazine error – there is NO Meditation Service at Carlton Curlieu this year).
Donations for Easter lilies – If anyone would like to make a donation for Easter lilies, please see either Phyllis Hallam or Arthur Whitfield.
