 At Communion Services
If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine. Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing. Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing. If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

NOTICES
We welcome Bishop Tim to our benefice today. Bishop Tim arrives at St Cuthbert’s Church at 9.15 a.m. to join us for breakfast in church (as it is the second Sunday in the month). He is taking the 10.30 a.m. service and we look forward to the Question & Answer session with him during coffee time.

 
Thank you to everyone who has cleaned and polished and decorated our three churches for Christmas and to our choirs for their singing – it made our Christmas services very special.

 
Mary wishes you all a very Happy New Year. Thank you so much for all your help and support during the year, and especially while I was away on sabbatical.

 
£92.92p was raised for the Children’s Society at the Christingle Service. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this and also to those who helped to make the Christingles and who ran the service.

 
Jubilee Meeting – Wednesday, 18th January at 6.30 p.m. at Methodist Church Hall. The Great Glen Parish Council are planning great celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The plan is to hold the Big Lunch in St Cuthbert’s churchyard on Sunday, 3rd June with an exhibition of 1950s memorabilia in church. The Thames Pageant will also be shown on the church projector screen. On Monday, 4th June, there will be games, dancing, competitions, etc on the recreation ground with fireworks and the lighting of the Jubilee Beacon in the evening – some activities could also be held in other village venues. If anyone is willing to help in any way, please could they contact Mary and/or come to the Jubilee meeting on the 18th January to which all our village clubs and organisations are invited to send representatives.

4-6 p.m. Saturday 21st January with games and tea for the children.

 
The Lent Course will be held on Tuesday evenings this year starting on Tuesday, 28th February at the Methodist Church Hall from 7.30 – 9 p.m.

 Sunday Lunch at Boboli on 22nd January 2012. A fund raising event for The Well in Kibworth at 12.30 p.m. Tickets are £20 pp. and include a welcome drink (white or red wine or beer upon arrival), a main course, pudding and coffee. There will also be a raffle with many fabulous prizes. Tickets available from The Well or telephone 279 1185 to book your table.

 

 Great Glen Charity – There is money to hep people buy vital new equipment such as a washing machine if they’re stuck for funds so if ever you hear a comment like “I don’t know how I’m going to manage without ...”, please get in touch with the Vicar or one of the other trustees.

 

 Humour is a gift – “Q. What excuse did Adam give to his children as to why he no longer lived in Eden? A. Your mother ate us out of house and home.”

 

 Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy now has a hearing loop. If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position.

 

 Lifts to Services – If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton Overy and they will arrange one for you.

 

 Keeping people in touch – Please do take copies of this news-sheet to anyone you know who might be interested, especially to those who can’t get to church at the moment.

 • For those who are grieving, anxious or suffering from depression.

 • For our headteachers, staff and children as the new term begins.
