At Communion Services
If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine. Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing. Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing. If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

NOTICES
Needed! Please can you bring your old Palm crosses to Mary so we can turn them into ash ready for Ash Wednesday as our supply of ash is running low!

Do you have any photos of the interior of St Cuthbert’s Church that could be used on our new church website – flower arrangements, weddings, people in church? If so, please could you email them to Helen Dartnall at ahdartnall@yahoo.co.uk

Alan and Jane Chandler would like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts/best wishes/offers of help/presents/etc when Alan had his operation. They were truly overwhelmed with the support given by so many. Alan is now recovering nicely and feeling a lot better.

St Cuthbert’s Funding Campaign – We would like to thank very much those who have contributed to St Cuthbert’s Church funds and also to thank the church members who gave so much of their time to help with the funding campaign. The campaign has ensured that the church will receive £15,749 annually (including Gift Aid) which is excellent but which leaves us a shortfall of £9,000 so we all now need to consider how to do some fundraising. If you are willing to run any event, no matter how big or small, please get in touch with David Webster (259 3717) who chairs the fundraising committee. A copy of the Funding Campaign Final Report is on the table at the back of church for you to see.

Breakfast in Church – No Bishop Tim this time but I hope a good number of us will enjoy breakfast in St Cuthbert’s Church after the 8.30 a.m. service on Sunday, 12th February – hopefully some people from the 10.30 a.m. service will join us too and stay for the CW Holy Communion afterwards. It’s a good chance for members of the two congregations to get to know each other.

The next Timeout for families will be at The Yews on Saturday, 11th February, from 4 to 6 p.m. A social family time - we bring board games and puzzles, etc for older children and toys for younger ones. Buy your own drinks (and food if you wish) from the pub. We have a brief time to pray for people’s concerns at some point! We have been allocated a room/area to ourselves (far right as you enter the pub).

Eliminating Polio – Mary would like to thank everyone who has given her small presents to take to India to give as a reward for children receiving the Polio vaccination drops or their siblings who bring them. If you still wish to contribute, balloons would be light and space saving in her suitcase, but pencils and crayons are very acceptable!

The Lent Course will be held on Tuesday evenings this year starting on Tuesday, 28th February at the Methodist Church Hall from 7.30 p.m. until 9 p.m. The theme this year is “Money” – seems a timely topic!
1. Money – what is it? 28th February Revd Paul Richards
2. Money and Rewards 6th March Revd Mary Ireland
3. Money and Influence 13th March Roger Flowers
4. Money: Wealth and Poverty 20th March Revd Gordon Webb
5. Money and Generosity 27th March Revd Mary Ireland

St Cuthbert’s & Glen Methodists “walking out together” – Our next joint service is on Sunday, 12th February when our Methodist friends will be joining us for our normal 10.30 a.m. Holy Communion Service. There was a warm atmosphere at the Christian Unity Service but it was a special one-off service, not normal worship for either church. This next shared service will be the first time the Methodist congregation join us for one of our usual Sunday morning services and we welcome them.

Lifts to Church – Sometimes, especially when there’s a special service, we need more than one person to give people lifts to church. If you can help people in this way, please tell the Vicar.

A Musical Evening is being organised by Blaby Rotary Club at Leicester Grammar School on Tuesday, 7th February, at 7.30 p.m. to raise money for e-Ranger Ambulances which saves the lives of women in labour. These little motorbikes with side-cars don’t get bogged down in sand or mud and are cheap and easy to maintain. Tickets £5. from LGS reception (tel. 259 1903).

Coffee Morning and Table Top Sale is being held on the 11th February 2012 at St Paul’s & St Augustine’s Worship Centre, Kirby Road, Leicester from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The Coffee Morning is in aid of DMK and the Table Top for church funds. Admission free. Everybody welcome.

Humour is a gift – “Q. Which Bible character had no parents? ”A. Joshua, son of Nun.”

Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy now has a hearing loop as part of the loudspeaker system. If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you will hear the service clearly.

Lifts to Services – If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton Overy and they will arrange one for you.

Please pray:-
• For all who are ill or suffering.
• For all those who do charity work.
• For discussions at the forthcoming General Synod and for Anne Bloor as she participates in the synod (Women Bishops is one matter on the agenda).
• For the families of those who died and also those who managed to save so many after a ferry sinking in Papua New Guinea.
• For peace in Cairo after the riots, and for all afflicted by violence.

Proverb of the Week: “Good people enjoy the positive results of their words, but those who are treacherous crave violence.” (Proverbs 13 v 2)
