Jubilee Memorabilia – Have you got anything dating from the 1950’s that we could borrow? We are trying to create an exhibition for the village jubilee celebrations and are looking for absolutely anything from around the time of the Coronation. Newspapers, magazines, mugs, tins, records, clothing, etc – anything. We will take care of them. FOR YOUR DIARY! Diamond Jubilee Celebrations in Great Glen – big plans are underway for this. Sunday 3rd June starts with a village Jubilee Service at St. Cuthbert’s Church at 11.00 am followed by Jubilee tree planting on the Memorial Green, the Big Lunch (byo food & drink) in the church and churchyard, and the screening in church of the Thames Pageant. On Monday 4th June the celebrations begin at 2pm on the Recreation Ground – there will be activities for all ages, food and drink on sale (teas, beer, burger van, hog roast etc), a large marquee with dancing until late, a professional firework display and lighting of the Jubilee Beacon. Great Glen is going to celebrate in style!!!
A Bring & Buy stall will be run on Stretton Road (opposite PO) on the morning of the 3rd Saturday of each month to raise funds to help with the cost of the Jubilee Celebrations. They need donations of cakes, bric-a-brac, jams and preserves, AND customers!
'Bringing the Beauty Salon to You' We are promised great fun trying new products, sharing lots of tips, and enjoying great customer offers..... The firm is Proto-col. Please support this fundraising event in aid of St. Cuthbert’s church funds and come along with your friends! Costs £6 (payable on the door) to include a glass of wine and some nibbles.
There is a new selection of cards for birthdays and other occasions. They are produced for the Mothers' Union and proceeds from the sale of the cards support MU work fighting poverty, injustice and tackling family issues. They are marked with the cost price on the envelope where the stamp goes but a donation of a pound per card makes a small contribution to church funds. Put money in the box or give it to Amy Cook.

Concert in aid of Save the Children by LGS Big Band + Guests on Thursday 29th March at 7.30 pm. Tickets £5 for each event or £8 for both! Available from Patricia Pegg 259 1903 or peggp@leicesergrammar.org.uk
Needed at St Cuthbert’s Church – a second churchwarden to help David Graves with this important work AND a new PCC Secretary to take over from Moira Bartlett who has done this job for a long time! Please think seriously about whether you or someone you know could take on these roles from the AGM on 22nd April. A church cannot function without people willing to take on these important tasks and it’s only fair to share them around and not to expect anyone to do them for too long.
Cracked masonry has appeared on the porch of St Cuthbert’s Church so we have had to fence off one side so no-one gets hurt if anything should fall. The Priest’s Door in the chancel has a new lock and key and it will be unlocked at services to provide another clear emergency exit.
Humour is a gift – A Sunday School teacher told her class the story of the Good Samaritan. She asked them “If you saw a person lying on the roadside all wounded and bleeding, what would you do?” A thoughtful little girl broke the hushed silence, “I think I’d throw up.”
Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy now has a hearing loop as part of the loudspeaker system. If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you will hear the service clearly.
Please pray:-
• We give thanks for the safe arrival of David and Carol Webster’s new grand-daughter Isabelle Louise.
• For all who are ill or suffering.
• For Rosie & Roger Hutchings, that God’s love may surround them.
• For those who are grieving..
• For wisdom for our leaders regarding Afghanistan and Syria.
• For the families and friends of those who died in the Belgian school trip coach accident, and the soldiers recently killed in Afghanistan
