If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine. Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing. Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing. If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

NOTICES
The Benefice Rogation Sunday Pilgrimage is on Sunday, 29th April, beginning this year at 10.30 a.m. at St Cuthbert’s Church, Great Glen, and ending at Carlton Curlieu with tea and cake about 3.45 p.m. You are invited to do the whole Pilgrimage or just a part of it, even to drive or bicycle if you prefer! Further details (times, route, etc) will be in church nearer the time.
A Supper Evening in aid of St Cuthbert’s Church funds is being organised for Saturday, 12th May (7 p.m. for 7.30 p.m.) at Burton Overy Village Hall. Mary will give a talk about her recent trip to India with the Rotary Club to help with polio vaccinations. Put the date in your diaries and invite your friends – more information in due course!
‘Bringing the Beauty Salon to You’ – We are promised great fun trying new products, sharing lots of tips, and enjoying great customer offers. The firm is Proto-col. Please support this fund-raising event in aid of St Cuthbert’s church funds and come along with your friends! Cost £6 (payable on the door) to include a glass of wine and some nibbles.
7.30 p.m. on Thursday, 26th April, at St Cuthbert’s Church.
Churchwarden – This is a vital job in every single Anglican Church and one that should be shared out so that no-one does it for any great length of time. For the last year St Cuthbert’s has managed with only one churchwarden (there should be two) assisted by Helen Dartnall as deputy churchwarden. Helen has now done five years and will retire at the AGM. As churchwarden, David Graves deals with all the building and churchyard issues but he cannot be at every single main morning service and we cannot have these services without someone willing to act as churchwarden and ensure that the church is prepared and that people are present to act as sidesmen, to read lessons, do the prayers, help with the communion, etc. Please think about this seriously and discuss it with other churchgoers as we MUST FIND someone to take on this role by the AGM on 22nd April and so far, in spite of appeals in NIP for a new churchwarden or deputy churchwarden, no-one has come forward.
Peter Scott has agreed to organise the Jubilee Memorabilia Exhibition at St Cuthbert’s Church. He would like all items for display to be given to Mary by Monday, 14th May, so he has a fortnight to work out how best to display everything – so keep the memorabilia coming, but make sure it’s clearly marked with your name and contact details before you lend it to us!! We want to return each item to its rightful owner!
Graham and Jenny Wearne would like to thank all their friends for their good wishes when their daughter, Verity, was married to Anthony on Saturday, 17th March. The wedding took place at St Wulfran’s Church, Ovingdean, Sussex and it was a truly memorable day.
Items for the parish magazine – Please contact Dirne Spearing by 15th April on 279 3311 or by email at insideoutgg@hotmail.co.uk
Diamond Jubilee Celebrations – On Saturday 2nd June there will be a Coronation and 1950s Exhibition and Teas at St Cuthbert’s Church (10 a.m. until 4 p.m.) and on Sunday, 3rd June at 11 a.m. there will be a Village Jubilee Service at St Cuthbert’s Church followed by Jubilee tree planting on the Memorial Green, the Big Lunch (byo food and drink) in the church and churchyard, and the screening in church of the Thames Pageant. On Monday, 4th June, from 2 p.m. on the Recreation Ground there will be activities for all ages, food on sale (teas, burger van, hog roast, etc), a large marquee with dancing until late, a professional firework display and lighting of the Jubilee Beacon. Great Glen is going to celebrate in style!!! AND so is Burton Overy – for details see their latest parish newsletter.
A Bring and Buy stall will be run on Stretton Road (opposite PO) on the morning of the third Saturday of each month to raise funds to help with the cost of the Jubilee Celebrations. They need donations of cakes, bric-a-brac, jams and preserves, AND customers!
Lifts to church – Sometimes, especially when there’s a special service, we need more than one person to give people lifts to church. If you could help people in this way, please tell the Vicar.
Humour is a gift – God’s Post-It notes – Don’t let your worries get the better of you. Remember, Moses started out as a basket case.
Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy now has a hearing loop as part of the loudspeaker system. If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you will hear the service clearly.
Please pray:-
• For all who are ill or suffering.
• For Rosie and Roger Hutchings, that God’s love may surround them.
• For David Webster and his family as they grieve for David’s mother who died recently.
• For those worried about work prospects, finances, retirement, etc
• For all those experiencing conflict and violence, and for peacemakers all around the world.
Proverb of the Week: “A worthy wife is her husband’s joy and crown; a shameful wife saps his strength.” (Proverbs 12 v 4)
