NOTICES

Mary's Institution as Rector of Great & Little Harrowden, Orlingbury, Isham & Pytchley will take place on Sunday, 5th May at 3.30 p.m. at St Mary's Church, Little Harrowden.  Her last Sunday here will be 21st April - but she will to return to lead the Rogation Sunday Pilgrimage for one last time – let’s hope the weather's an improvement on last year!!  For refreshment and seating purposes, the churchwardens at Little Harrowden need some idea of how many people might attend Mary's service of Institution so please can you contact David Graves (271 4420, email davidjgraves@btinternet.com) of Anne Bloor (259 2550, email bloor@burtonovery.freeserve.co.uk) if you think you might be going - Little Harrowden is about 35 minutes from Great Glen.

A Lent Challenge - to get to know the names of all the people who attend your church's services!  Shy people would appreciate a bit of help with this challenge from those who are more gregarious or have more local knowledge or better memories!

Lent Courses In Glen each Wednesday session starts at 7.30 p.m. at Glen Methodist Church.  We are doing a York Course called “Glimpses of God”.  DO COME even if you can't attend all the sessions!

Smeeton Westerby is running a course on Monday evenings (7.30-9pm in church) on “Mary – for Christians and for Muslims” –

Feb 25: Canon David Monteith Mary in Christian traditions & in Islam
Mar 4: Revd Bonnie Evans-Hills  Mary for Shia Muslims
Mar 11: Miss Sughra Ahmed, Markfield Institute Mary for Sunni Muslims
Mar 18: Father Fabian Radcliffe  Mary for Roman Catholics
Mar 25: Revd Ludger Fremmer  Mary for Anglicans

The Bible Study House Group meeting on Tuesday, 26th February at
7.30 p.m. at The Springs, Carlton Lane, Burton Overy, will be continuing their discussions on the Book of Genesis.

Death Watch Beetle at Burton Overy - The good news is that English Heritage have promised a maximum grant of £42,000. towards the roof repairs to St Andrew's Church at Burton Overy.  The not so good news is that we now have to raise the balance of the total repairs estimated at just over £108,000.  The church has reserves in the building fund and an appeal is to be launched for £46,000.  Please consider if you can help.

New Churchwardens will be needed at both Burton Overy and Great Glen from the AGMs onwards.  We are very grateful to David Pease and David Graves who are both standing down after three years' service.  Both churches really need two churchwardens to steer them through the interregnum - but they must not be expected to do all the work.  Please can you consider seriously how you may be able to help your Church in the coming months.

Young Families: Sparklers is going to need a leader (preferably two leaders) to run it after Easter.  There is a team of young mums who do the crafts, so it's not very time-consuming.  Tessa Mynott will also need some assistance with Messy Church (about three times a term) and Carol Neal would like a partner to work with her with Timeout (once a month).

Bishop Tim has asked us to pray for his daughter, Rachel, who was diagnosed with breast cancer on Ash Wednesday.  He also asks for our understanding if he is unable to keep his diary commitments.  We need to keep the whole family in our prayers as she embarks on the necessary treatment.

Renewal of Church Electoral Rolls - Every six years, each parish church has to compile and publish a completely new version of its Electoral Roll.  Everyone who wishes their name to appear on the new roll must complete a fresh application form - even though their name may already appear on the current roll, which in April 2013 will no longer be valid.  Application forms may be found inside St Andrew's and St Cuthbert's, near the entrances.  People wishing to be on the new joint roll for Burton Overy and Carlton Curlieu should return their completed forms to Richard Bloor by 21st March.  Completed application forms for Great Glen should be returned to Roger Hickling by 27th March. Why apply to be on your parish church's Electoral Roll?  It will entitle you to attend your church's Annual Meeting and vote for your new PCC and your parish's representatives on the deanery synod.  Any person entitled to attend the Annual Meeting may raise any question of parochial or general church interest.  The Annual Meeting for Burton Overy/Carlton Curlieu is on Thursday evening, 18th April, and the Annual Meeting for Great Glen is on Wednesday evening, 24th April.

Heritage Lottery Fund - Find out if your church could benefit on 1st March 2013 at St Martin's House at 9.45 a.m. for a 10 a.m. start until 12.30 p.m.  The HLF Fund is for projects that involve urgent structural repairs to places of worship that are at risk.  Grants are available from £10,000 to £250,000.  There will be an opportunity to speak to an HLF representative.  For more info go to www.hlf.org.uk or Gill Rusk 0116 261 5353 or gill.rusk@leccofe.org
