If you are a communicant member of a
Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and
wine. Otherwise you are welcome to
either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing. Keeping your hands down by your side will
signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing. If you have difficulty coming up to the
Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a
sidesman.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS
Concert at St
Cuthbert's on 22nd March 2014
- We have booked Yvonne Bloor, an accomplished classical guitarist and composer
to give a concert.
Yvonne has given
concerts in many parts of the UK and abroad and her CD
"Promise"
was released last December. It promises
to be an entertaining concert given by a very high-quality artist. It will also be a fund raising
event for the
Parish. Please put this date into your
diaries now. Full details or the
arrangements for the concert will be announced early in the New Year.
Mosaic Concert
at Burton Overy on Wednesday, 18th December - Tickets are available from Robert and Fran Brown (tel. 259
3184). Price £8. Join us to hear these
marvellous eight voices. You will
remember them from last year. They will
sing a programme of music to include Christmas Carols by Pelestrina, Gesualdo,
Mendelssohn, Bruckner, Holst, Praetorius, Warlock, Stopford, Sarsaney,
Willcocks, Lauridsen and others. Mulled
wine and mince pies will be served during the interval. Everyone welcome.
The Service of
Nine Lessons and Carols
takes place at St Cuthbert's Church on Sunday, 22nd December, at 6.30 p.m. After the service, we shall be serving mulled
wine and mince pies. If anyone is able
to contribute any mince pies, we would be very grateful and perhaps you would
let Amy Cook know. (tel 259 2610).
Epiphany - The
Manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles - Everyone is invited to follow the Star and join in a
Celebratory Service in Burton Overy Church on the 7th January 2014 at 10.30
a.m. The service will comprise a
selection of hymns and readings followed by tea/coffee and will be hosted by
Mothers' Union Deanery members.
Philippines
Appeal Bucket - The sum of
£12.65 has now been sent to the Appeal.
Thursday
Drop-In at St Cuthbert's -
Just a reminder that the Thursday Drop-In does not take place during December,
January and February. We would then
appreciate offers from volunteers to help man it. If you could help, please let Amy Cook know.
Coffee at St
Cuthbert's - It is good to
be able to socialise over a drink and biscuit after the 10.30 a.m. service but
we are very short of volunteers to act as hosts. We will shortly be saying goodbye to Jenny
and Graham and then there will only be two of us who regularly serve behind the
counter. We have other regular weekly
commitments and cannot be expected to also do coffee duty each week. There is a list of service dates from the
beginning of December until Easter on the table by the door and it would be
appreciated if some other members of the congregation could commit themselves
to make coffee occasionally, otherwise there will be some weeks when there will
not be any refreshments. You only need
to provide milk and everything else should be in the cupboard. AMY COOK
Hearing Loop – If you wear a hearing aid at St
Cuthbert's or St Andrew's, adjust the switch to the T position and you will
hear the service clearly.
Keeping people
in touch – Please do take
copies of this news-sheet to anyone you know who might be interested,
especially to those who can’t get to church at the moment.
Humour is a
gift – Seen in another
church magazine: "For those of you
who have children and don't know it, we have a nursery next door."
Please pray:-
- For Peter Wood, John Spencer, Myra Humphrey, Judith
Buffrey’s grandson Joel, Rachel Stevens, and all who are ill.
- That we may all have a happy and joyous Christmas but let
us not forget the true meaning of Christmas.
- For those for whom Christmas is a lonely and difficult
time.
- That the weather may be kind at Christmas so that all
those travelling to see family and friends may be able to do so.
- For peace throughout the world at this very special time.
Proverb of the
Week: “Be generous, and you will be
prosperous. Help others and you will be
helped .” (Proverbs 11 v25)
