At Communion Services

If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine.  Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing.  Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing.   If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

NOTICES

LENT COURSE 'GOD HAS NO FAVOURITES' will be starting at 7:30 pm on Wednesday February 25th at the Methodist Hall.  There are leaflets at the back of church with notes and questions for each session, please pick one up.

ST CUTHBERT'S AGM 6.30 p.m. onSunday 12th April, at the church: This year we will open with a short act of worship followed by a time of fellowship and refreshment of wine and nibbles.  It is a time for all of us to gather, to chat and to look back at the year that has gone.  I would love to have as many of you with us as possible so that I can share a vision and hope for the year ahead of us.  Hope to see you there!

VICAR'S LETTER please make sure you pick up a letter from Kim.  It has areas to think about being involved in and how you can be a more active part of our church family as we move ahead into new vision and hope as a benefice.

CHOOSING THE NEXT BISHOP OF LEICESTER  In order to hear the views of people in the Diocese, there will be four open consultation meetings:

Friday 6th March – Samworth Centre, Melton Mowbray
Wednesday 11th March - All Saints Church, Thorpe Acre
Tuesday 17th March – St John’s Church Hinckley
Wednesday 18th March – Grand Hall, St Martins House, Leicester

In each case the meeting will run from 7.00 for 7.15 to 8.45. All are welcome, whether or not you are currently involved in the life of the Church.

WOMEN’S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER SERVICE will be held at St Cuthbert’s Church on Friday 6th March at 2.15 p.m.  This year the service has been prepared by the Christian women of the Bahamas and the theme is “Jesus said to them: Do you know what I have done for you?”  Everyone is welcome to join us and stay for tea and cake afterwards.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO BECOME A SIDESMAN ? The job of sidesperson is very important.  Why?  Because you should be the first person anyone walking into a church service sees.  The reception one gets when walking into a church for the first time, or even into a different church, can be a decisive point as to whether one makes a return visit.  We would like more volunteers especially for 10.30 services.  If you would like to be included please let Amy Cook know.

VERGERS   Additional volunteers would be very welcome especially for Saturday weddings (a fee is payable).  If you are able to help, please contact David Webster (2593717) for further details.

LEICESTER ANGLICAN CURSILLO WEEKENDS are run by volunteers and the two this year are at Launde Abbey.  LAC is a Christian organisation which is part of the world wide movement that celebrates its 21st year on June 20th this year at Leicester Cathedral.  Please pray for all thirty three people attending the weekend at Launde Abbey from 19th to 22nd February, especially two members of our congregation, Helen Dartnall and Carole Henson.

DOUBLE GATES  Due to the window damage, caused by the attempted break-in, the double gates on Church Road are to remain closed when the Church is not open until future notice.

CHURCH CLOCK A Faculty has been granted to electrify the Clock and the work will be started shortly.  It is also hoped to clean the clock face in the Spring.

TREES IN CHURCHYARD The tree work in the churchyard has been carried out by the Council for safety reasons (not at our expense).

LIFTS TO SERVICES – If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton Overy and they will arrange one for you.

KEEPING PEOPLE IN TOUCH – Please do take copies of this news-sheet to anyone you know who might be interested, especially to those who can’t get to church at the moment.

Please pray for:-

·         Margaret Wood, Peter Wood, Arthur Whitfield, Heather Alexander, Margaret Bannister, Christine Higgins, Kimberley Tyler, Alan Selway, Marion Frost and all who are ill.

·         the soul of Charles Potter
