News in the Pews

Sunday 19th May – Fifth Sunday of Easter

Collect for Today
Risen Christ,
your wounds declare your love for the world
and the wonder of your risen life:
give us compassion and courage
to risk ourselves for those we serve,
to the glory of God the Father.

Post Communion Prayer
Eternal God,
whose Son Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life:
grant us to walk in his way,
to rejoice in his truth,
and to share his risen life;
who is alive and reigns, now and forever.

St Cuthbert’s Theology Reading Group - Our St. Cuthbert’s Theology Reading Group invites anyone interested in exploring further their Christian faith/ knowledge, to join us at our monthly house meetings. We decide on a recommended book, usually by eminent Christian authors, which we read (one or two chapters at a time) and discuss over several meetings. Our discussions are usually lively and informative with the Rev. Philip Norwood giving us an experienced, guiding hand. Our next book, starting in June, is “God with us” by Rowan Williams.
Next meeting: Tuesday 4 June, 7-30pm.

Diocese Generous Giving
Claire Bampton from the Diocese Generous Giving team, in her sermon on Sunday 5th May, spoke about trusting God as we launched the Parish Giving Scheme in our church. In fact, quite a few of already use this “direct debit” scheme, including all the members of the choir in case you ever wonder why we do not put a contribution on the plate as it passes by. This scheme is run by the diocese of Gloucester on our behalf. Not only do we get your donation that you pledge by direct debit each month (or quarter) but also the additional 25% of gift-aid if you are a tax payer. It is still possible to use these forms in order to make your regular contribution even if you are not a tax payer or do not wish to gift-aid your donation. You don’t have to feel guilty either of not putting money on the plate. There are cards on the table by the door that you can pick up and drop on the plate instead. The forms are available from the back of the church or from me - Amy Cook

Have you ever thought you might want to serve the Lord in some way within the church? There are many ways to get involved both big and small. Here are some of the ways you can at St Cuthbert’s:
·       Bell ringing- we have a great opportunity for people young and old to learn how to ring our lovely bells. If you are interested please speak to Roland Cook.
·       Choir – the choir is looking for new members young or old, experienced or novice, why not have a go? If you are interested please speak to Moira Bartlett.
·       Intercessions- if you like to pray we are looking for more people to intercede during both the 9:15 and 10:45 service. Please speak to Gemma Herrick for 9:15 and Carole Henson for 10:45 if you are interested.
·       Reading- if you like to read we are looking for more readers for our 9:15 and 10:45 services. Talk to Sarah Collins for 9:15 or Amy Cook for 10:45.
·       Sides people- if you love to welcome people we would love to have you on our team at the 10:45 please talk to Amy Cook.
·       Coffee Rota- do you like bringing a smile to people’s faces than why not serve them so lovely coffee in between the two services? Please talk to Kim if you are interested.
·       Sound and projection – Dave and Simon would love help, particularly when one of them is away or unable to attend church.
