News in the Pews

Sunday 7th July – Third Sunday After Trinity

Collect for Today
God our saviour,
look on this wounded world
in pity and in power;
hold us fast to your promises of peace won for us by your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Post Communion Prayer
O God, whose beauty is beyond our imagining
and whose power we cannot comprehend:
show us your glory as far as we can grasp it,
and shield us from knowing more than we can bear
until we may look upon you without fear;
through Jesus

Bibles for year 6 students each year we, as a benefice, give the year 6 students at St Cuthbert’s Primary School a Bible as a leaving gift. In the past there hasn’t been many students but as the school has grown there are now quite a few students. So this year I am asking if people would like to donate the money for a Bible. The cost is £6 per Bible and there are 40 students this year. If you would like to donate money towards the Bibles there is a box at the back of church. Thank you for all who have donated so far we still need a bit more so if you would like to still donate please put it in the envelope on the table at the back of church.

St Cuthbert’s Theology Reading Group - Our St. Cuthbert’s Theology Reading Group invites anyone interested in exploring further their Christian faith/ knowledge, to join us at our monthly house meetings. We
decide on a recommended book, usually by eminent Christian authors, which we read (one or two chapters at a time) and discuss over several meetings. Our discussions are usually lively and informative with the Rev. Philip Norwood giving us an experienced, guiding hand.

'The Magazine'
Yes, it's time for my quarterly plea for items for the next issue of the church magazine.  The next magazine covers August to October. Please send me your articles, news, views and opinions, in fact anything that may interest others.  It would be lovely to hear from some of our younger members.  So PLEASE whatever your age, put pen to paper. I look forward to hearing from you. Garry -

Ladies Night Out Update:-
Christmas Luncheon at Launde.
Mo, Helen Dartnell and myself are offering to book another Carol Service and Meal at Launde Abbey for £19 per person.  We are offering 20 places on a first come, first served basis. Full payment either by cheque, or correct cash to Carole Henson. There needs to be a cut-off date (25th Aug), so as to book in with Launde and secure our places.  The meal is at 1pm and travel arrangements will be ongoing, but we are sure all those who want to go, will be able to!

Remember for July and August there will not be any Ladies Night Out.  We will resume on Wednesday 18th September at the new time of 7pm and we will meet at The Grange Farm Pub, Oadby.
