Sunday 1st
December – Advent Sunday
Almighty
God,
as
your kingdom dawns,
turn
us from the darkness of sin to the
light
of holiness,
that
we may be ready to meet you
in
our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Post
Communion Prayer
O
Lord our God,
make
us watchful and keep us faithful
as
we await the coming of your Son our Lord;
that,
when he shall appear,
he
may not find us sleeping in sin
but
active in his service
and
joyful in his praise;
through
Jesus Christ our Lord.

Charities Help
I would like to bring to your attention that our village and
church have two charities that are there to help anyone who lives in the
village and are in times of need. During this time of the year or any time of
the year, there are those who need or find it difficult to make ends meet. The
two charities are there to help people who live in Great Glen for things like
Christmas presents, replacing a washing machine, helping with school costs if
they cannot afford an activity or other needs that they are unable to do
without help so there are many different areas in which the charities can help.
So if you know of anyone who needs help or indeed if you find yourself in a
place of need please feel free to have a word with Kim or the church wardens to
find out how we might be able to help.
Advent Prayer Course
starting on Tuesday the 3rd, 10th Dec and Wednesday 18th
Dec
at 7:00 pm
The
course was set up by Pete Greig who was the founder of the 24/7 prayer
movement. There are 8 sessions and during the four evenings we will do two each
time. The sessions include 1.Why pray, 2.Adoration, 3.Petition, 4.Intercession,
5.Unanswered prayer, 6.Contemplation, 7.Listening and 8.Spiritual Warfare.
These are sessions to help us go deeper into our understanding of prayer and
how it can give us the tools to pray effectively. The last session will be held
on a Wednesday as to avoid clashing with Carlton Curlieu’s Carol Service. We
hope you can join us as we seek to deeper in our understanding. If you would
like more details please contact Sarah (her details are on the front of the
news sheet).
Alternatively there will be a weekly afternoon prayer course as well, if you would
like to do that instead please contact Rev’d Sarah Collins – Tel: 07525 491496
Welcome
Project is in need of breakfast cereals, toothpaste, tooth
brushes, hats and gloves. Of course the normal food items or extra Christmas
items are always welcome too. So next time you shop please put in something a
bit extra to help those in need.
ALPHA
Course starting in January.
We will be running an Alpha course. This is a 10-week
course each evening starts with fellowship around a hot meal and then goes into
a talk about who God is and what the Christian faith is all about. It takes
time to delve into the big questions people ask and helps us to discover new
understanding. After the talk we will break up into smaller groups with a group
leader and discuss the questions the talk has raised in a smaller setting.
If you are interested in either coming or helping in
this course please talk to Kim or Sarah about how to come or how to be
involved.
Toys
on the Table this Christmas season we will also be collecting new
toys for children who otherwise will get nothing for Christmas. We are asking
people who are able to, to bring a new toy for children of any age and for a
boy or a girl. We will be collecting them at our Christingle service, but if
you are unable to attend please simply bring them to the church. Please do not
wrap them.
