Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing. Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing. If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

NOTICES
Plums – Mary’s garden is in full production again – please call in any time and pick plums from her trees – some are going over but there are still masses of good ones there!

Vicarage BBQ – Sunday, 12th September, sees the second and final of this summer’s vicarage barbecues. It is a great chance for those who attend different services to meet each other in a friendly and informal way. Just bring along what you want to eat and drink and enjoy. This is an event open to all the benefice and not just Great Glen. Please come along from 12.30 p.m.

Alpha Course – We now need names of those interested in attending the taster session on Monday, 13th September (7 – 9.30 p.m.) at the Methodist Church Hall so we know how many to cater for. Please can everyone think about who might be interested and approach them about it. Sometimes it’s helpful to accompany them to the taster session so they can decide for themselves if they would like to do the course itself (from Monday, 20th September to Monday, 29th November). Please contact Mary with names and numbers for the taster session and Chris Otway if you can help with food or washing up!

The Churches Together Team in Great Glen have decided that the annual Outdoor Service which was due to take place on Saturday, 11th Sept will have to be abandoned as too many people are away that day.

Gift Aid Envelopes – Will anyone who kindly donates money to St Cuthberts via the gift aid envelopes which are left in the pews, please note that it is essential that they include their name and post code on the envelope in order for the tax to be claimed. This tax revenue is a vital source of income to the church. Many thanks.

Ride and Stride Day takes place on 11th September. This is an annual fund-raising event when people get sponsored to visit as many churches as they can between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. – usually by bicycle but also on foot or by car. We need volunteers to man St Cuthbert’s Church during the day so please contact Carol Neal or sign up for one or more of the hourly slots on the sheet at the back of church. If you would like to take part yourself, you will find sponsor sheets at the back of each of our churches. It’s great fun and you get to see the inside of many churches that are often closed and meet lots of lovely people who often tell you interesting things about their churches!

Back to Church Sunday is this year on the 26th September. Sometimes people simply get out of the habit of going to church. This year, we’re taking part in this nationally recognised event designed to encourage anyone who has got out of the routine of attending church to come back. Personal invitations are at the back of church for you to give to anyone you feel might be interested – please can everyone try to invite someone!

Cinema in Great Glen – The Oscar winner Sandra Bullock stars in “The Blind Side” (Certificate 12). This award-winning film which has received rave reviews will be shown in the Village Hall on Saturday, 18th September at 7.30 p.m. Tickets are now on sale from Margaret Wood (259 2100).

Churchyard Incident Warning – All Saints Churchyard at Newtown Linford recently had an incident (poss trying to destabilise gravestones). There is a suggestion that it was a deliberate ploy to cause injury and claim for personal injury. It would be helpful for the police to hear whether any other churches have had a similar experience. For further information contact Pam McMorran on 01530 242140.

Bible Study House Group takes place at The Springs, Carlton Lane, Burton Overy on Tuesday, 24th September at 7.30 p.m.

The Diocesan Assembly is on Saturday, 25th September, at the Samworth Academy. The theme of the day is “Food for the Journey” and the whole programme is being set in the framework of a service of Holy Communion. Details of the programme and choice of workshops are on the diocesan website. Do go for all or part of the day, but please register soon.

Children during the 10.30 a.m. Communion Services are invited to move into the north aisle (whether at Glen or Burton) after the Gloria to engage with the day’s bible story in ways that they will appreciate. They rejoin their parents in the pews at The Peace.

Lifts to Services – If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton Overy and they will arrange one for you.
