Churchwarden Vacancy – There is a vacancy for a Churchwarden and applications will be invited prior to the Church AGM which will take place on Sunday, 1st May, after a short Evening Service. Details of the duties of the Churchwardens are available from our current Churchwarden, David Graves. Members of the Church are encouraged to think about whether this might be an opportunity for them to help the church by sharing the workload. The Altar in the Lady Chapel has now been repaired and returned to us. We would like to express our most grateful thanks to the lady who has anonymously paid for its repair. Pastoral Visitor – If anyone is interested in becoming a church pastoral visitor, please contact Carol Henson, Pastoral Assistant, on 240 3368 or email Henson@talk21.com Five volunteers are needed to help clean the plastic chairs which we use from time to time for extra seating at services where we have very large congregations. The date set for cleaning these chairs is Saturday, the 18th June, from 10 a.m. until about 12 noon when tea and cake will be served! If you can help, please contact David Graves on 271 4420. Easter Lilies – If anyone would like to make a donation towards the lilies and other flowers for Easter, would they please give it to Phyllis Hallam or Arthur Whitfield as soon as possible. Farm Visits to Burton Overy – As in previous years, our Harvest collection in Burton Overy has gone to provide the transport to bring inner city children to see life on Craig and Nicola’s farm, particularly the new-born lambs. The children will be coming this week. Burton Overy Church Annual Meeting is on Monday, 11th April at 7.30 p.m. in the Village Hall. Children’s Practice for Mothering Sunday – Bring your children to learn a song to sing at the service on Mothering Sunday. There will be a practice on Saturday, 2nd April, at 5 p.m. at St Cuthbert’s Church, Great Glen. Churches Together in Great Glen 2011 Lent Course – The Lent Course this year takes place on Wednesday evenings in Lent at the Methodist Church at 7.30 p.m. and the topics to be covered are as follows:- 30th March Suffering led by Revd Gordon Webb 6th April Sackcloth led by Revd Paul Richards 13th April Self-Preservation led by Revd Paul Richards Leicester Grammar School Concert takes place on Friday, 1st April, at 7.30 p.m. The choral society and school first orchestra will be performing John Rutter’s ‘Feel the Spirit’ – a wonderful collection of spiritual songs. Prayer List – During Mary’s absence, could people contact either David Graves, Roger Flowers or Angela Allen with the names of anyone who is sick and needs to be visited and/or prayed for. Vergers at St Cuthbert’s – We need a few more people who would be willing to act as verger at weddings and funerals on an occasional basis. If you can help or would like to know more about what is involved, please contact David Graves on 271 4420. Lili Parrington – A plaque is being dedicated to Lili at the Village Hall on Saturday, 16th April. Tea and cake will be served at 3 p.m. followed by the dedication. Anyone who knew Lili will be very welcome. Children during the 10.30 a.m. Communion Services are invited to move into the north aisle (whether at Glen or Burton) after the Gloria to engage with the day’s bible story in ways that they will appreciate. They rejoin their parents in the pews at The Peace. Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy now has a hearing loop as part of the loudspeaker system. If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you will hear the service clearly. Humour is a gift – Church Magazine Howlers:- ‘Don’t let worry kill you off – let the Church help.” Please pray:- · For Those who have lost loved ones. · For all who are ill or suffering. · For the people of Japan who have lost family and friends in the recent earthquake and tsunami and are now suffering from the effects of radiation. · That peace may return to Libya and all the Middle East countries.
