NOTICES
A very big “thank you” from Mary to Roger, Angela, Carole, the churchwardens and everyone who worked hard to keep all our church activities going so well during her absence, and also to Revd Paul Richards and members of the Methodist Church who helped with Sparklers and other aspects of church life too.
Choral Evensong – Next Sunday, 15th May, is the second of our big Mission Partnership choral evensong services (we have two each year). This time, it’s at Foxton church – please do support this and enjoy a wonderful service with a big choir and excellent musical direction. Please invite anyone you know who would appreciate this service to join us.
St Cuthbert’s AGM – We are immensely grateful to David Graves who was appointed as the sole churchwarden for St Cuthbert’s Church – it would be enormously helpful if we could have a second volunteer, but if no-one comes forward, the work of the second churchwarden will need to be distributed among a number of people as it is too much to ask David to do it all! Our thanks are due to Jane Parkinson who is willing to continue as treasurer for another year and to Moira Bartlett who is continuing her excellent work as PCC Secretary having already done it for quite a number of years.
Launde Abbey and St Martin’s House – Coming up shortly – two occasions to celebrate in the diocese:-
Bank Holiday Monday, 30th May at Launde Abbey – a day to celebrate the re-opening of Launde Abbey after the extensive renovations. The day is planned for all the family – take a picnic or enjoy a hog and lamb roast. There will be plenty of music, including contributions from the Ratcliffe Chorale, the Sven Klangs Jazz Band and an Iona Big Sing. The day will culminate in an act of worship at 3 p.m.
Friday, 10th June – Official Opening of St Martin’s House in Leicester – Service in the Cathedral at 2.30 p.m. After the service there will be a party and celebration for everyone in the precincts with food and entertainment. There will also be a chance to tour St Martin’s House. Every parish is invited to the service. To apply for tickets, please contact Julia Unna on 0116 261 5362 or Julia.unna@leccofe.org
Would anyone like to come to this with Mary? It includes the premiere of a new musical piece written by Karl Jenkins.
St Cuthbert’s Church Fete – We shall be holding a fete in and around the church on Saturday, 4th June. We are asking for contributions for tombola, bottle stall, unwanted gifts, jigsaws and children’s toys (complete and in good condition please). There will be a box in church from 1st May. Offers of help to man a stall and to help with setting up and dismantling on the day would be greatly appreciated.
Wanted books in good condition for stall at the Church Fete on 4th June. Collection can be arranged. Please contact Alan Selway on 259 2605.
Diocesan Parish Share Sub-Committee – This group is responsible for recommending the level of parish contributions each year and for monitoring progress as the year proceeds. It usually meets three times each year, twice for two hours mid-week (spring and autumn) and for a full day in the early summer. We are currently seeking 1 parish clergy, 1 parish or deanery treasurer and 1 other lay person to join the group in time for the next meeting in June. Members serve for an initial term of three years. Expressions of interest, including two or three sentences describing relevant interests or experience and the contact details of a referee should be sent to the Diocesan Secretary, Jonathan Kerry, at Jonathon.kerry@lecofe.org or post to St Martins House, 7 Peacock Lane, Leicester, LE1 5PZ, to arrive no later than 31st May 2011.
Great Glen Film Show – The next film to be shown at Great Glen Village Hall on Saturday, 14th May, at 7.30 p.m. is “The King’s Speech” starring Colin Firth and Helen Bonham-Carter. Tickets cost £4. and may be obtained from Great Glen Post Office. (Tickets are going very quickly). There will be no film show in July or August and the next one will be on the 10th September and will be “Made in Dagenham”.
Great Glen Charity: There is money to help people buy vital new equipment such as a washing machine if they’re stuck for funds so if ever you hear a comment like “I don’t know how I’m going to manage without …” please get in touch with the Vicar or one of the other trustees.
Stoughton Village Fete opens at 12 noon on Saturday, 14th May with lunches, teas and coffee from 11.30 a.m. in the village hall. Stalls, games, barbecue, Fleckney Silver Band, plants, books, white-elephant, and home-made cakes.

Please pray:-
• For all who are ill or suffering.
