If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine. Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing. Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing. If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

NOTICES
TODAY - BBQ in Vicar’s Garden – Come and join us TODAY for a bring-and-share BBQ in the garden of St Cuthbert’s Vicarage from 12 noon onwards on Sunday, 10th July. In previous years, this has been much enjoyed by those who came so do please come and enjoy yourselves – it’s far too big a garden for Mary to keep to herself!! There’s lots of space for the children to play without getting in anyone’s way. Bring your own footballs, plates, cups, food and drink – we’ll provide cutlery, tea and coffee.
Volunteers Needed – In times past, Cyril Taylor and Dave Alexander looked after the paths in St Cuthbert’s Churchyard but recently no-one has undertaken this task and with Council cutbacks the churchyard is beginning to look very unsightly at times. All that’s needed is for weedkiller to be sprayed along the edges of some of the paths and on a couple of tombs (which recently boasted 3 ft high thistles) perhaps two or three times a year to keep things looking beautiful and tidy. If you could help with this, please contact David Graves on 271 4420 or the Vicar.
Mayhem Munches – To enable parents/carers to continue their fellowship and time of prayer after their children have grown out of Sparklers, we are starting a weekly Bring and Share Lunch for parents/carers (and children) at the beginning of September. We will meet from 12.30 to 1.45 p.m. each Friday at the Methodist Church Hall to share lunch and fellowship and to pray for family, friends and other situations as we currently do at Sparklers. Mayhem Munches is for parents but children are welcome of course and there will be toys for them to play with when they’ve finished eating! Mayhem Munches is a joint project with Glen Methodist Church (as is Sparklers).
Ignition are going camping in Somerset with Mary and Helen Dartnall to attend the New Wine Christian event in the last week of July. We hope the experience of being with thousands of Christians will enrich their lives and that they will have a great time – please pray for them.
St Cuthbert’s Church Funding Campaign will start in September. We require volunteers to do the visiting of existing and new givers. It is intended to keep the visits to a maximum of ten per visitor so we need plenty of volunteers please! If you can help with this, even if you can only do a few visits, please contact David Webster on 259 3717.
Our Parish Magazine – Having produced this for twenty years or more, Peter Scott feels the time has come for him to step down. Now we have to decide what to do. Do we want to continue the magazine and, if so, who is going to become editor? Or do we put more information about future services, rotas, etc on our church websites or do we create a bumper issue of NIP once a month? We will need to decide about this by the end of August. All suggestions welcome.
Organ Recital at St Anne’s, Letchworth Road, Leicester –Jonathan Gregory, former Master of Music at Leicester Cathedral, and his students will be giving an organ recital on Saturday, 16th July at 5 p.m. Suggested cost is £5 per adult or a donation towards St Anne’s funds.
Launde Abbey has been short-listed for the third year running for the East Midlands Enjoy England Excellence Awards Tourism Experience Category. In 2007, Launde won the Silver Award and last year won the Bronze Award. This year it has also been short-listed for the Tourism Experience Award which “recognises the outstanding tourism businesses that help make the East Midlands so attractive to visitors”. It shows that as well as being a Retreat, it is a successful business and confirms that Launde is something to be proud of.
Afternoon Teas at Gaulby Church - Visit Gaulby church every Saturday until the end of August for teas between 2.30 and 4.30 p.m. Kings Norton church is also open between 2 and 4 p.m.
Organ Recitals at Billesdon Parish Church – Three organ recitals have been arranged at Billesdon Parish Church at 8 p.m. with free admission.
Thursday, 16th July, by Stephen Baden Fuller (Billesdon)
Thursday, 23rd July, by Peter Wright (Southwark Cathedral)
Thursday, 30th July, by Andrew Reid (Peterborough Cathedral)
Children during the 10.30 a.m. Communion Services – There are bible quizzes, colouring pictures, bible stories, etc available in a children’s area in the north aisle (whether at Glen or Burton). We hope all children will come to the altar with their families to receive a blessing (or communion if they normally receive this).
Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy now has a hearing loop as part of the loudspeaker system. If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you will hear the service clearly.
Humour is a Gift – Through a child’s eyes: “Dear God, instead of letting people die and having to make new ones why don’t you just keep the ones you got now? - Jane”
Please pray:-
• For all who are ill or suffering
• For all who are bereaved.
• Some good to come from the phone hacking scandal.
• For aid to reach those in drought stricken in Somalia.
Proverb of the Week:
“Mockers don’t love those who rebuke them, so they stay away from the wise.” (Proverbs 15 v12)
