Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing. Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing. NOTICES
The Bible Study House Group meets at The Springs, Carlton Lane, Burton Overy on Tuesday, 5th July at 7.30 p.m. and will be discussing the parables in St Matthew’s Gospel.
BBQ in Vicar’s Garden – There will be a bring-and-share BBQ in the garden of St Cuthbert’s Vicarage from 12 noon onwards on Sunday, 10th July. In previous years, this has been much enjoyed by those who came so do please come and enjoy yourselves – it’s far too big a garden for Mary to keep to herself!! There’s lots of space for the children to play without getting in anyone’s way – even a lower lawn (and goal posts) for kicking a ball around without any danger to the rest of us! Bring your own footballs, plates, cups, food and drink – we’ll provide cutlery, tea and coffee.
Sunday Breakfast – A dozen or so of us enjoyed eating breakfast (or some part of it) together at St Cuthbert’s Church after the 8.30 a.m. service on the 12th June. We shall be doing this on the second Sunday of each month and we hope people from both the 8.30 and 10.30 services will join us. Do think about coming NEXT SUNDAY 10th July – it’s a simple meal (cereals, toast, etc – sorry, no bacon and eggs!).
St Cuthbert’s Church Funding Campaign will start in September. We require volunteers to do the visiting of existing and new givers. It is intended to keep the visits to a maximum of ten per visitor so we need plenty of volunteers please! If you can help with this, even if you can only do a few visits, please contact David Webster on 259 3717.
Our Parish Magazine – Having produced this for twenty years or more, Peter Scott feels the time has come for him to step down. We are immensely grateful for his patient work on this for so many years but now we have to decide what to do. Do we want to continue the magazine and, if so, who is going to become editor? Or do we put more information about future services, rotas, etc on our church websites or do we create a bumper issue of NIP once a month? Peter’s last edition will be the September one so we will need to decide about this by the end of August. All suggestions welcome.
Burton Overy Churchyard Clean Up – Saturday, 20th August, sees the annual clean up of the church grounds from 9 a.m. until 12 noon. If you can help, please will you contact Robert Brown on 259 3184 or Geoffrey Grant on 259 2331 in advance to let us know.
Service details online – Don’t forget you can always find the service details for St Cuthbert’s at http://stcuthbertschurchgreatglen.blogspot.com and for St Andrew’s at http://www.leicestershirevillages.com.burtonovery/standrewschurch. We hope to have Carlton’s online soon too.
The Diocese Communications Dept would like people to complete this questionnaire in order to inform and improve diocesan communications. It is part of a research project investigating attitudes to digital communication methods and social media. The results will be used completely anonymously and help improve the ways in which communication is used within the organisation. It will take about 10 minutes. Fill it out online at:

Afternoon Teas at Gaulby Church - Visit Gaulby church every Saturday until the end of August for teas between 2.30 and 4.30 p.m. Kings Norton church is also open between 2 and 4 p.m.
The Dean of Leicester Cathedral, the Very Revd Vivienne Faull, will be preaching at the service in the ruins of Knaptoft Church at 3 p.m. on Sunday, 17th July. The service will be accompanied by Fleckney Silver Band.
Children during the 10.30 a.m. Communion Services – There are bible quizzes, colouring pictures, bible stories, etc available in a children’s area in the north aisle (whether at Glen or Burton). We hope all children will come to the altar with their families to receive a blessing (or communion if they normally receive this).
Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy now has a hearing loop as part of the loudspeaker system. If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you will hear the service clearly.
Humour is a Gift – A child’s letter to God:
“Dear God, Do you know when I’m bad or good? Or is that just Santa Claus?”
Please pray:-
• For all who are ill or suffering
• For all who are bereaved.
• For wisdom from both sides in the public sector strikes.
• For the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as they undertake their first public foreign tour.
• For the people and families being killed and hurt by the recent Ugandan lightening strikes, especially the 18 primary school children who died this week.
Proverb of the Week:
“A proverb in a fool’s mouth is as dangerous as a thorn bush brandished by a drunkard” (Proverbs263 v9)
