NOTICES
An Open Air Service will be held outside Glen Methodist Church at 4 p.m. on Sunday, 3rd July. The service is being organised by both St Cuthbert’s and the Methodist Church – do come and enjoy singing hymns and eating a cream tea afterwards!
A different service – next Sunday is the baptism of Ophelia Balakrishnan. Her mother is a Christian and her father’s family come from a Tamil background. Revd Andrew Wingate will be assisting and will introduce some Tamil Christian elements into the service so that both sides of Ophelia’s family feel included – it will be an interesting service for us all.
BBQ in Vicar’s Garden – There will be a bring-and-share BBQ in the garden of St Cuthbert’s Vicarage from 12 noon onwards on Sunday, 10th July. In previous years, this has been much enjoyed by those who came so do please come and enjoy yourselves – it’s far too big a garden for Mary to keep to herself!! There’s lots of space for the children to play without getting in anyone’s way – even a lower lawn (and goal posts) for kicking a ball around without any danger to the rest of us! Bring your own footballs, plates, cups, food and drink – we’ll provide cutlery, tea and coffee.
Burton Overy Society are having a guided tour of Deene Park on Tuesday, 12th July 2011. We shall make our own way there and meet at 1.45 p.m. Deene Park, a 16th century country manor, is located five miles north east of Corby. Cost £7.50 entrance, £3.50 tea and cakes. If you are interested, please telephone Mary Parker on 259 2260.
St Cuthbert’s Church Funding Campaign will start in September. We require volunteers to do the visiting of existing and new givers. It is intended to keep the visits to a maximum of ten per visitor so we need plenty of volunteers please! If you can help with this, even if you can only do a few visits, please contact David Webster on 259 3717.
Kibworth Band Concert – Our thanks are due to the Band for another very enjoyable evening. Thanks also to those providing and serving the refreshments.
Our Parish Magazine – Having produced this for 20 years or more, Peter Scott feels it’s time for him to step down. We are immensely grateful for his patient work on this for so many years but now we have to decide what to do. Do we continue the magazine and, if so, who is going to become editor? Or do we put more information about future services, rotas, etc on our church websites or create a bumper issue of NIP once a month? Peter’s last edition will be the September one so we will need to decide about this by the end of August. All suggestions welcome.
Magazine Error – Peter apologises for the error in the Magazine about the amount raised at the Church Fete. He inadvertently stated that the amount raised was £70. when, in fact, the amount raised was over £800.
A Mission Partnership Quiet Day will take place at Gartree House, Illston on the Hill on Saturday, 2nd July, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Its title is “Encountering Silence & Creating Inner Space” and it will be led by Revd Paskal Clement. A light buffet lunch will be provided for a small contribution. If you would like to go, please contact Revd Helen Bence on 270 7820 or Helen@thurnbychurch.com.
The Dean of Leicester Cathedral, the Very Revd Vivienne Faull, will be preaching at the service in the ruins of Knaptoft Church at 3 p.m. on Sunday, 17th July. Music will be provided by Fleckney Silver Band.
Afternoon Teas at Gaulby Church - Visit Gaulby church every Saturday until the end of August for teas between 2.30 and 4.30 p.m. Kings Norton church is also open between 2 and 4 p.m. and is only a short walk away along the country lane.
The Christian Praise Committee needs to recruit 6 – 8 people who feel this could be for them. They particularly need people with administration skills, database skills, website maintenance skills, event management experience, secretarial skills, and a treasurer. If you could help, please ring the Chairman, Richard Gough, on 0116 288 0054 or email rgough2270@aol.com to let them know what skills you could offer.
Children during the 10.30 a.m. Communion Services – There are bible quizzes, colouring pictures, bible stories, etc available in a children’s area in the north aisle (whether at Glen or Burton). We hope all children will come to the altar with their families to receive a blessing (or communion if they normally receive this).
Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy now has a hearing loop as part of the loudspeaker system. If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you will hear the service clearly.
Humour is a Gift – A child’s letter to God:“Dear God, Maybe Cain and Abel would not kill each other so much if they had their own rooms. It works with my brother. Larry”

• For our doctors, nurses and medical staff, and for our local GP practices.
• For the elderly, especially those worried about their future care.
• For the people of Greece as they tackle their financial problems.
• For the people of Northern Ireland, that peace and prosperity may be restored.
