NOTICES
St Cuthbert’s and Glen Methodists “Walking Out Together” – Next week (22nd January) sees the first of the shared services between St Cuthbert’s and Glen Methodists. Please do come to this Christian Unity Service at Glen Methodist Church at 10.30 a.m. to share worship and allow us to get to know each other better.

Burton Overy Community Choir will be singing for fun for the next four Mondays at 7.30 p.m. in the back room of The Bell Inn. Gareth Malone has shown us how much pleasure we can all get from singing together, so why not think about giving this local community choir a try? Pop in and see what they’re up to or contact Helen Alloway on 259 1011 or helenalloway119@gmail.com for more details. The four Mondays are 16th, 23rd, 30th January and 6th February.

Jubilee Meeting – Wednesday, 18th January at 6.30 p.m. at Methodist Church Hall. The Great Glen Parish Council are planning great celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. They plan to hold the Big Lunch in St Cuthbert’s churchyard on Sunday, 3rd June with an exhibition of 1950s memorabilia in church (we need someone to organise this). The Thames Pageant will also be shown on the church projector screen. On Monday, 4th June, there will be games, dancing, competitions, etc around the village but mainly centred on the recreation ground with fireworks and the lighting of the Jubilee Beacon in the evening. If anyone is willing to help in any way, please could they contact Mary and/or come to the Jubilee meeting on the 18th January.

Post Christmas Party for young families connected with our churches (e.g. Sunday services, Sparklers, All Sorts @ School, and Timeout) at St Cuthbert’s Church – 4-6 p.m. Saturday 21st January. If parents provide food for tea, we will provide games for older children and toys for younger children, and drinks for everybody.

Eliminating Polio – Polio now exists in only four countries (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria) and Rotary and Bill Gates are now working together to eliminate polio completely. Mary is going to India with Rotary in February to assist with the National Immunisation Day on 19th February. Each child is given a small present, such as balloons, pens and pencils, toothbrushes, small bouncy balls, etc as a reward for children receiving the drops or their siblings who bring them. It has been suggested that church members might like to contribute some items for Mary to take (she has to take 100 in total). These must be of very low value or we will make it difficult for Indian Rotarians in the future NIDs when they give very little.

The Lent Course will be held on Tuesday evenings this year starting on Tuesday, 28th February at the Methodist Church Hall from 7.30 p.m. until 9 p.m. The theme this year is Money – seems a timely topic!

Sparklers needs a leader – Roger Hutchings has helped lead Sparklers since it started but had to give it up in July. We are now really beginning to feel the loss and must find someone to take on this important church work. We need someone who is willing to chat to and get to know the families who come, and occasionally lead the short simple service (song, story, prayers). Please can everyone pray about this and think about who might be able to take on this role for us – contact Mary (259 2238) with any queries or thoughts. Thank you.

Items for the Parish Magazine – The deadline for the February edition is today, 15th January. Please contact Dirne Spearing on 279 3311 or by email at insideoutgg@hotmail.co.uk

Sunday Lunch at Boboli on 22nd January 2012. A fund raising event for The Well in Kibworth at 12.30 p.m. Tickets are £20 pp. and include a welcome drink (white or red wine or beer upon arrival), a main course, pudding and coffee. There will also be a raffle with many fabulous prizes. Tickets available from The Well or telephone 279 1185 to book your table.

Humour is a gift – “Q. Which servant of God was the most flagrant lawbreaker in the Bible? A. Moses. He broke all 10 Commandments at once.”

Children during the 10.30 a.m. Communion Services - There are bible quizzes, colouring pictures, bible stories, etc available in a children’s area in the north aisle (whether at Glen or Burton). We hope that all children will come to the altar with their families to receive a blessing (or communion if they normally receive this).

Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy now has a hearing loop. If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position.

Lifts to Services – If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton Overy and they will arrange one for you.

Keeping people in touch – Please do take copies of this news-sheet to anyone you know who might be interested, especially to those who can’t get to church at the moment.

Please pray:-
• For all who are ill or suffering
• For Bishop Tim as he works on the government Select Committee concerned with the future of the House of Lords (who should be part of it, etc).
• For students taking mock exams.
• For homeless teenagers and young people.
• For people to resort less to violence for solving problems.
