NOTICES
St Cuthbert’s & Glen Methodists “walking out together” – Today our Methodist friends join us for our normal 10.30 a.m. Holy Communion Service. There was a warm atmosphere at the Christian Unity Service but it was a special one-off service, not normal worship for either church. This week’s service is the first time the Methodists join us for one of our usual Sunday morning services and we warmly welcome them.
The Ash Wednesday Service at 7.30pm on Wednesday 22nd February will be at St. Cuthbert’s Church and led by Revd. Gordon Webb from the Methodist Church – we look forward to welcoming our Methodist friends once more – do come if you can, it’s a very moving service.
Do you have any photos of the interior of St Cuthbert’s Church that could be used on our new church website – flower arrangements, weddings, people in church? If so, please could you email them to Helen Dartnall at ahdartnall@yahoo.co.uk
St Cuthbert’s Funding Campaign – We would like to thank very much those who have contributed to St Cuthbert’s Church funds and also to thank the church members who gave so much of their time to help with the funding campaign. The campaign has ensured that the church will receive £15,749 annually (including Gift Aid) which is excellent but which leaves us a shortfall of £9,000 so we all now need to consider how to do some fundraising. If you are willing to run any event, no matter how big or small, please get in touch with David Webster (259 3717) who chairs the fundraising committee. A copy of the Funding Campaign Final Report is on the table at the back of church.
Lifts to Church – Sometimes, especially when there’s a special service, we need more than one person to give people lifts to church. If you can help people in this way, please tell the Vicar.
Books and Prayers have been placed on the bookcase at the back of St Cuthbert’s Church for the use of visitors. Please help yourself to a copy of the prayers if you would like one but please leave the books in church. We are grateful to Moira Bartlett for providing these.
Alan and Jane Chandler would like to thank everyone for the wonderful support they received from so many people when Alan had his operation. Alan is now recovering nicely and feeling a lot better.
Eliminating Polio – Mary would like to thank everyone who has given her small presents to take to India to give as a reward for children receiving the Polio vaccination drops or their siblings who bring them

Burton Overy Community Choir : the singing goes on – With no choir rehearsals for Easter, the Choir will continue meeting after half-term, starting back on Monday, the 20th February. Meetings are on Mondays at 7.30 p.m. in the back room of The Bell Inn, Burton Overy. Just turn up and have a go. Singing is fun. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be able to read music – it is purely a light-hearted sing-song of pop songs. For more details, contact Helen Alloway on 259 1011 or helenalloway119@gmail.com

Provost Derek Hole Lecture : Faith, Ethics and Society – “The End of the Peer Show?” Is there a place for Bishops in a modern Parliament? Lecture by the Rt Revd Tim Stevens, Bishop of Leicester, takes place on Wednesday, 29th February, from 6 p.m. at the Hugh Aston Building, De Montfort University. Refreshments from 5.30 p.m. In this lecture, the Bishop of Leicester will explore what the House of Lords is for, how good it is at its job, and why ours is the only democracy in the world that has a guaranteed seat for Bishops. In particular, he will ask how should the voice of Bishops be heard in an economic crisis and what should be the voice of the Church in the public square.
