At Communion Services
If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine. Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing. Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing. If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

NOTICES
Fund Raising needed for St Cuthbert’s Church – If you have any ideas for this, especially if you are willing to run any event no matter how big or small, please get in touch with David Webster on 259 3171 who chairs the Fund Raising Committee.

Do you have any photos of the interior of St Cuthbert’s Church that could be used on our new church website – flower arrangements, weddings, people in church? If so, please could you email them to Helen Dartnall at ahdartnall@yahoo.co.uk

Lifts to Church – Sometimes, especially when there’s a special service, we need more than one person to give people lifts to church. If you can help people in this way, please tell the Vicar.

Books and Prayers have been placed on the bookcase at the back of St Cuthbert’s Church for the use of visitors. Please help yourself to a copy of the prayers if you would like one but please leave the books in church. We are grateful to Moira Bartlett for providing these.

Items for the Parish Magazine – The deadline for the April edition is 9th March as it will be a big Easter edition and we want to get it delivered earlier than usual so that people have reasonable notice of the services over the Easter period. Please contact Dirne Spearing on 279 3311 or email at insideoutgg@hotmail.co.uk

The Women’s World Day of Prayer Service this year will be held at Great Glen Methodist Church on Friday, 2nd March, at 2.15 p.m. The service has been prepared by the Christian women of Malaysia and the speaker will be the Revd Chloe Willson-Thomas. Everyone is welcome.

Next Breakfast in Church is on Sunday, 11th March, at 9.15 a.m. in St Cuthbert’s Church.

FOR YOUR DIARY! Diamond Jubilee Celebrations in Great Glen – Big plans are underway for this. Sunday, 3rd June starts with a village Jubilee Service at St Cuthbert’s Church followed by Jubilee tree planting in the cemetery field, the Big Lunch (byo food and drink) in the church and churchyard and the screening in church of the Thames Pageant.

On Monday, 4th June, the celebrations begin at 2 p.m. on the Recreation Ground – there will be activities for all ages, food on sale (teas, burger van, hog roast, etc), a large marquee with dancing until midnight, a professional firework display and lighting of the Jubilee Beacon.
Great Glen is going to celebrate in style!!!

A Bring and Buy Stall will be run on Stretton Road (opposite the PO) on the morning of the 3rd Saturday of each month to raise funds to help with the cost of the Jubilee Celebrations. The first of these is on Saturday, 18th February, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. They need donations of cakes, bric-a-brac, jams and preserves, AND customers!

The Lent Course will be held on Tuesday evenings this year starting on Tuesday, 28th February at the Methodist Church Hall from 7.30 p.m. until 9 p.m. The theme this year is “Money” – seems a timely topic!

Provost Derek Hole Lecture : Faith, Ethics and Society – “The End of the Peer Show?” Is there a place for Bishops in a modern Parliament? Lecture by the Rt Revd Tim Stevens, Bishop of Leicester, takes place on Wednesday, 29th February, from 6 p.m. at the Hugh Aston Building, De Montfort University. Refreshments from 5.30 p.m. In this lecture, the Bishop of Leicester will explore what the House of Lords is for, how good it is at its job, and why ours is the only democracy in the world that has a guaranteed seat for Bishops. In particular, he will ask how should the voice of Bishops be heard in an economic crisis and what should be the voice of the Church in the public square.
