NOTICES
Maundy Thursday – We have invited our Methodist friends to join us for a Holy Communion service at 7.30 p.m. with foot-washing. It’s a service full of meaning for us – do come if you can. Foot-washing is an option, not an imposition!
Good Friday – Do come and join us for breakfast at 8 a.m. at Burton Overy Village Hall. Enjoy eating breakfast with friends and neighbours while the children make ribbon streamers and other activities before we all sing and pray together for a short time. As part of our shared services, we have been invited to join the Methodists for their Good Friday service at 7.30 p.m (NOW A 8.00pm START). at their church and so there will not be a service at St Cuthbert’s at 2 p.m. this year.
Good Friday Afternoon – As some people particularly value the opportunity to pray between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Good Friday,
St Cuthbert’s Church will be open during this time for anyone who wishes to use it for private prayer and reflection. It would appear that the youngsters no longer visit as the church is locked when they are not at school, but just to deter any inappropriate behaviour, the church will be manned while it is open from 2 to 3 p.m.
Easter Sunday Family Service shared with Glen Methodist Church – Breakfast will be served at the Methodist Church at 9.30 a.m. Come and enjoy bacon butties, toast, marmalade, etc. This Easter Sunday, the main morning service will follow a different pattern. It will start at 10.30 a.m. at the Methodist Church with hymns, bible reading and a sermon and then a procession of witness to the village as we walk up to St Cuthbert’s to receive communion. Ribbon streamers made on Good Friday will be used for the procession. We hope most people will join the procession but some will need to go from one church to the other by car. There will be the usual Easter Egg treasure hunt for the children after the service.
A Supper Evening in aid of St Cuthbert’s Church funds is being organised for Saturday, 12th May (7 p.m. for 7.30 p.m.) and Mary will give a talk about her recent trip to India with the Rotary Club to help with polio vaccinations. Put the date in your diaries and invite your friends – more information in due course!
Jubilee Memorabilia Exhibition – NEEDED – someone to display the items you are kindly beginning to come forward with!! The lady we were hoping was going to do it for us is unable to get time off work to do it. Please ask around and find someone to organise this exhibition – it’s not a very big job! And keep the memorabilia coming – but make sure it’s clearly marked with your name and contact details before you lend it to us!! Please contact Mary on 259 2238 or email her (mary_ireland@btinternet.com)
Floral Open Days with an Exibition of Crafts at Blaby All Saints' Church on Easter Sunday and Monday - 11.30am - 5pm.
Mothers’ Union - Thank you to all who supported the “Make a Mother’s Day” appeal. The Mothers’ Union works very hard to support families and communities both here and abroad and the financial support received through the gifts received from Great Glen and Burton Overy will help to fun MU work both in the UK and Ireland and overseas.
‘Bringing the Beauty Salon to You’ takes place on Thursday, 26th April at 7.30 p.m. at St Cuthbert’s Church. We are promised great fun trying new products, sharing lots of tips and enjoying great customer offers. The firm is Proto-col. Please support this fund-raising event in aid of St Cuthbert’s church funds and come along with your friends! Cost £6 (pay on the door).
Humour is a gift – A Sunday School teacher decided to have her young class memorise Psalm 23. Little Rick was excited about the task but after much practice he could barely get past the first line. On the day that the kids were scheduled to recite Psalm 23 in church, Ricky was so nervous and when it was his turn, he stepped up to the microphone and said proudly “The Lord is my Shepherd, and that’s all I need to know”.
Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy now has a hearing loop as part of the loudspeaker system. If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you will hear the service clearly.
Please pray:-
• For all who are ill or suffering
• For Rosie and Roger Hutchings, that God’s love may surround them.
• For those who grieve.
• For the people of Syria, their leaders and Kofi Annan’s peace plan, that the killing might stop and honest negotiations begin.
Proverb of the Week: “The godly speak words that are helpful, but the wicked speak only what is corrupt.” (Proverbs 10 v 32).
