If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine. Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing. Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing. If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

St Cuthbert’s Church at 7.30 p.m. We are promised great fun trying new products, sharing lots of tips, and enjoying great customer offers. The firm is Proto-col. Please support this fund-raising event in aid of St Cuthbert’s church funds and come along with your friends! Cost £6 (payable on the door) to include a glass of wine and some nibbles.

A Supper Evening in aid of St Cuthbert’s Church funds is being organised for Saturday, 12th May (7 p.m. for 7.30 p.m.) and Mary will give a talk about her recent trip to India with the Rotary Club to help with polio vaccinations. Put the date in your diaries and invite your friends – more information in due course!
Parish Magazine – Dirne Spearing is in more pain again due to further neck problems and cannot afford to spend as much time with the computer as she’d like. She needs to give up being Parish Magazine Editor after the July edition. Please can you give some thought to the future of the magazine and who might take it on. Dirne’s husband, Peter, will continue to look after the parish website that is under construction.
Sparklers needs a leader – We need someone who is willing to chat to and get to know the families who come and occasionally lead the short simple service (song, story, prayers). Please can everyone pray about this and think about who might be able to take on this role fur us. Contact Mary on 259 2238 with any queries or thoughts.
Peter Scott has agreed to organise the Jubilee Memorabilia Exhibition at St Cuthbert’s Church. He need all items for display to be given to Mary by Monday, 14th May, so he has a fortnight to work out how to display everything so keep the memorabilia coming – but make sure it’s clearly marked with your name and contact details before you lend it to us!!
Service of farewell to our Archdeacon, Ven Richard Atkinson, on Sunday, 28th April 2012 at 6 p.m. at Leicester Cathedral. All are welcome. Immediately following the service, there will be a party in the Grand Hall of St Martins House – again all are welcome. There will be food, drink and music! Please let Mary know if you wish to go as they want numbers for catering purposes by Monday, 23rd April.
6.30 p.m. with speaker Cardinal Cormac Murphy O’Connor, Archbishop Emeritus of Westminster. The subject of the lecture is “Meaning and Hope : Christianity’s Place in Modern Britain”. The lecture will be followed by light refreshments in the Cathedral. All welcome – no charge! Enquiries to Julia Unna on 262 5362.
A concert entitled ‘Ancient and Modern’ takes place at St Thomas Becket Church , Tugby , LE7 9WD , on Friday 27th April. Varied programme includes organ music, trumpeter, West End hits, choral singers. Tickets £10 inc. drinks and nibbles. For details tel. Philip Baughan on 259 8402
Colours of Life takes place on Saturday, 26th May, from 9.30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Samworth Academy in Leicester (free entrance). Lots to do – juggling, fire-eating, a Christian conjurer, chainsaw wood sculpting, 30 m long inflatable Noah’s Ark, sports coaching, a gospel choir, seminars with best selling authors, Messy Church, velcro olympics for older children, art exhibition, giant BBQ, Jemba drumming workshops, prayer labyrinth, and experience more of God in the Colours of Life interactive treasure hunt! Come and walk the Bluebell Woods in Gumley – The Old Rectory, Gumley will be open on Saturday, 28th April, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and then from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Walk through the bluebells followed by tea or coffee sitting in the garden. There will also be a cake stall selling cakes, biscuits and other homemade goodies. Please come and enjoy a walk and help our fund raising efforts for St Helen’s Church in Gumley by making a donation.
Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy now has a hearing loop as part of the loudspeaker system. If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you will hear the service clearly.
