At Communion Services

If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine.   Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing.  Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing.   If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

Our thanks are due to everyone who encouraged us by attending the AGMs for all three of our churches recently and especially to St Cuthbert’s Choir for choosing some lovely hymns for the Songs of Praise.

Supper and India Talk – The date for this needs to be changed as the 12th May seems to have too many other things happening.  Would the 30th June be a suitable date for this?  Please let Mary or Carole Henson (240 3368) know.

The next Messy All Sorts @ School will be on Thursday, 10th May, from 3.30 to 4.30 p.m. in the Community Lounge at St Cuthbert’s Primary School.  All children from 0-11 years are welcome and adults too!

A Big Mission Partnership Choral Evensong with a choir of 30 plus people drawn from neighbouring churches will take place at St Cuthbert’s Church at 6.30 p.m. on Sunday, 13th May.  The theme is the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with music from her Coronation service.  The Ven Derek Hole will be preaching and will tell us about his role as a Queen’s Chaplain. This is the only one of these lovely big choral evensong services this year so DON’T MISS  IT!  Bring any of your friends who enjoy traditional services – this is a really lovely one.  Why not invite someone who hasn’t been to church for a while?

The Ascension Day Tower Service will be held at 7.30 a.m. on Thursday, 17th May, followed by breakfast (bacon butties!) beautifully cooked and kindly provided by Richard and Anne Bloor at The Springs, Carlton Lane, Burton Overy.  Half of us climb to the top of the tower, the other half stay at the bottom and we share the same short service ending with a ‘shout in turn’ praise!  There is enough time for children to get to local schools before the beginning of their school day.  Do come and join us – all welcome!

Parish Magazine – Dirne Spearing is in more pain again due to further neck problems and cannot afford to spend as much time with the computer as she’d like.  She needs to give up being Parish Magazine Editor after the July edition.  Please can you give some thought to the future of the magazine and who might take it on.  Dirne’s husband, Peter, will continue to look after the parish website that is under construction.

Peter Scott has agreed to organise the Jubilee Memorabilia Exhibition at St Cuthbert’s Church.  He would like all items for display to be given to Mary by Monday, 14th May, so he has a fortnight to work out how best to display everything so keep the memorabilia coming – but make sure it’s clearly marked with your name and contact details before you lend it to us!!

Sparklers needs a leader – We need someone who is willing to chat to and get to know the families who come and occasionally lead the short simple service (song, story, prayers).  Please can everyone pray about this and think about who might be able to take on this role fur us.  Contact Mary on 259 2238 with any queries or thoughts.

Humour is a gift – God’s Post-It notes – It s easier to preach ten sermons than it is to live one.

Please pray:
  • For Arabella Faith Mason who was baptized last Sunday and for her family as they move to the USA, and especially for her English grandmother who will remain in this country.
  • For all who are ill or suffering.
  • For Rosie and Roger Hutchings, that God’s love may surround them.
  • For the family of Claire Squires from Great Bowden who died in the London Marathon.
  • For discussions about how we should source our energy supplies without damaging our world.
