At Communion Services


If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine.   Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing.  Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing.   If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

NOTICES

The Christian Aid Coffee Morning raised £261.  We are grateful to all who helped with that and with the door-to-door collection.

Supper and India Talk will be held on 30th June at Burton Overy Village Hall at 7 p.m. for 7.30 p.m.  Mary will give an illustrated talk about her recent trip to India to take part in the Rotary ‘End Polio Now’ project which is beginning to bear fruit in terms of ridding the world of polio.  Tickets are £8.50 and include a glass of fruit juice.  You are welcome to bring more drink (juice, wine, etc) if you wish.  This is in aid of St Cuthbert’s Church funds.  Please contact Carole Henson on 240 3368 or hensonc@talk21.com for tickets.

The next Timeout will be on Friday, 6th July from 4 – 6 p.m. at St Cuthbert’s Church.  Please bring your own food and drink (juice. wine, beer, etc.  Games for the children will be organised so come and enjoy yourselves.   There will be a short time of prayer for your concerns.

Sparklers needs a leader – We need someone who is willing to chat to and get to know the families who come and occasionally lead the short simple service (song, story, prayers).  Please can everyone pray about this and think about who might be able to take on this role for us.  Contact Mary on 259 2238 with any queries or thoughts.

A flower arranging demonstration by Rosemary Mason will be held on Thursday, 6th September, in aid of St Cuthbert’s Church funds.  Rosemary is going to be featured in a programme entitled “By Royal Appointment” on ITV3 at 8 p.m. on the 24th June.  Rosie holds a warrant for making the posies carried by the Queen and her attendants at the Maundy Services.  Details of our event will be in the July magazine.

The Bible Study House Group will meet on Tuesday, 3rd July at 7.30 p.m. at The Springs, Carlton Lane, Burton Overy when we will be continuing our reading and discussion on St Matthew’s Gospel.

At the Evensong Service at Burton Overy on the 8th July, there will be a visiting choir of ex-Cathedral choristers.  Please do come to hear their beautiful singing at this lovely traditional C of E service.

From Time to Time takes place at St Peter’s Church, Oadby on Sunday, 1st July at 6 p.m.  An evening of music and readings celebrating the Book of Common Prayer’s 350th anniversary.  Included is Handel’s ‘Come unto him’, Wesley’s ‘Lead Me Lord’, John Ireland’s ‘It is a thing most wonderful’, Charles Villiers Stanford’s ‘Te Deum’ and Geoffrey Burgon’s ‘Nunc Dimittis’.  Words include the language of Cranmer and his successors plus how the Prayer Book has influenced life and thought over the centuries.  Free entry with retiring collection.  More details from Oadby Parish Office on 272 0080.

Vigil of Prayer - There will be a Vigil of Prayer for the Church of England in Leicester Cathedral on Thursday, 5th July, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the eve of the meeting of the General Synod in York at which voting will take place concerning the ordination of women to the Episcopate.  There will be prayers for the guidance of the Holy Spirit for wisdom and compassion in the debates, for those who will be happy as a result of the votes and for those who will be upset.  All who are concerned about the future of the Church of England are welcome to attend, whatever your views are on this issue.  For further information, please contact Julia Unna, PA to the Residentiary Canons on 0116 261 5362 or email julia.unna@leccofe.org

Children during the 10.30 a.m. Communion Services – There are bible quizzes, colouring pictures, bible stories, etc available in a children’s area in the north aisle.  We hope that all children will come to the altar with their families to receive a blessing (or communion if they normally receive this).
