At Communion Services


If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine.   Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing.  Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing.   If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

NOTICES


At next Sunday's Family Service at Burton Overy, our young people will be telling us all about the Grand Challenge competition they took part in this summer.  Congratulations to Ambrose Robinson, Dulcie Barre and Eleanor Broughton who won the Intermediate Age Group.


The All Soul's Service takes place this year on Friday, 2nd November, at 7.30 p.m. at St Cuthbert's Church.  This is a very gentle service for those who have been bereaved and for the remembrance of loved ones.


The 2020 Vision Road Show takes place on Tuesday, 30th October at St Dionysius, Market Harborough from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.  Bishop Tim will be coming along with other members of the Senior Staff team to present the outcome of the 2020 Vision process and what the implications are for the diocese and the Gartree deaneries.  The Bishop is very keen that as many people as possible from PCCs and DCCs and other interested people in our churches should come to this event


Opportunity to earn a little extra - Dr and Mrs George need someone to transport their children (aged 6 and 10) from Leicester Grammar Junior School to their home in Coverside Road at the end of each school day.  If you would like to discuss this with them, please contact Dr George on 07877 549421 or Mrs Marian George on 07886 400476 or on their landline 259 2140.

Burton Overy Society meets on Tuesday, 23rd October at 7.30 p.m. in the Village Hall.  Wendy Freer of Leicester University will be talking on 'The Workhouse'.  Entry £2.
 
Mary Magdalene film - There will be a free film show depicting the life of Mary Magdalene on the 24th October at Christ Church, Thurnby Lodge, starting at 7.30 p.m.  The film last for about 1½ hours and refreshments will be supplied.  ALL are welcome and parking is not a problem.

Concert with the LOROS Singers followed by a buffet supper takes place on Friday, 2nd November 2012, at 7.30 p.m. at the Old Grammar School, Kibworth Beauchamp.  Christmas cards and gifts will also be on sale.  Tickets £12 from Fran Brown (259 3184).


The Bishop's Youth Council mission trip to Tanzania - To raise funds for this, Bishop Tim is hosting a black tie dinner with guest speaker Mike Wooldridge (a BBC International Correspondent).  Tickets are £50 from Mads Morgan - 07795 805196 or mads.morgan@gmail.com


The Bishop's Lay Congress 2012 takes place on Saturday, 17th November from 9.30 a.m. until 3.45 p.m. at the Samworth Enterprise Academy, Trenant Road, Leicester, LE2 6UA.  It is entitled "God's Economy ....?  Christian approaches to the common good".  With crises in the global economy and financial markets, recession in the UK and questions being raised about the way businesses and banks are operating, what's to be done?  What might Christian perspectives and values contribute to building something better and what needs to change in our ways or organising our economic, political and social life to develop greater well being for individuals, communities and nations.

 
Hope Against Cancer - A performance of Fauré's 'Requiem' with choir and soloists directed by Dr Christopher Johns will take place on the 4th November at 4 p.m. in Leicester Cathedral.  No tickets are required but there will be a retiring collection in aid of Hope Against Cancer.  All welcome!  Please support this if you can as this charity has brought much cancer expertise to Leicester to our great benefit.


All Saints' Annual Service - This takes place at All Saints' Church, Highcross Street, Leicester on Saturday, 27th October, at 12 noon when the Patronal Festival will be observed and a Book of Common Prayer Holy Communion celeb rated.  After the service, refreshments will be provided.  NB - Wrap up well.  The service is supported by the Prayer Book Society (Chris Stephens on 0116 271 6086).

A Farewell Service will be held for the Very Revd Viv Faull, Dean of Leicester Cathedral at 4pm on Sunday 28th October in the Cathedral.

Non-Stop Turmoil or Global Spring?  Saturday, 3rd November 10 a.m. - 4.30 p.m.  at St Philip's Church, Evington Road, Leicester, LE2 1HN  Are religious values under threat in a rapidly changing world?  How can the religions co-operate in shaping the future?  Christian and Muslim speakers will address these main themes and involve participants in workshop reflections.  Tickets £10 including vegetarian lunch.  Further information from Sonya Brown on 0116 210 1744 or son.therev@me.com

Children during the 10.30 a.m. Communion Services - There are bible quizzes, colouring pictures, bible stories, etc available in a children's area in the north aisle (whether at Glen or Burton).  We hope that all children will come to the altar with their families to receive a blessing (or communion if they normally receive this).


Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy has a hearing loop as part of the loudspeaker system.  If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you will hear the service clearly.
