NOTICES

Christmas Tree Festival Carols end the Christmas Tree Festival tonight at 6.30 p.m. in St Andrew's Church featuring The Spectaculars Community Choir.

Advent Service of Light - This lovely candlelit service will be held tonight at St Cuthbert's Church at 6.30 p.m. This is a service of Advent music and readings and will be led by the Choir.  Do come and bring your friends.

Christingle Service - Please can you bring unwrapped toys (new or good-as-new) for Women's Aid who will give them as Christmas presents to children who have to leave home suddenly over the festive season.  Please can you also bring money for the collection which will be sent to The Children's Society who do so much to help disadvantaged children.

Lunch at Methodist Church next Sunday, 9th December, we are sharing a lunch with our Methodist friends after the 10.30am United Service at their church.  They are hoping to provide a hot main course and would like us to provide desserts.  As we need some idea of numbers please could you let Mary know if you might be going, and also if you can provide a dessert.

Burton Overy Christmas Lunch 2012 - This is on Sunday, 9th December, at 12.30 p.m.  The cost is £8.50 per adult and £4 for under 12s (under 2s are free).  Bring your own drinks.  For more information and tickets, please contact Jane Chandler on 259 3223.  We are hoping for a visit from Santa again this year!

Food for the Homeless - Please can you bring non-perishable food items to church so people have food to eat over Christmas.

Christmas Concert at St Andrew's - On Tuesday, 18th December, at 7.30 p.m. Mosaic, a choir of eight voices, will be singing beautiful carols from six centuries, Renaissance, Polyphony, Christmas Spirituals, German, Spanish, Italian, English Carols;  classical and modern settings.  All proceeds to Death Watch Beetle Fund.  Tickets (to include a glass of wine and canapés) £8.  Available from Robert Brown (259 3184).

Cards for Good Causes - The multi-charity Christmas card shop is now open at Leicester Cathedral - Mondays to Saturdays from 10 a.m. until
4 p.m.  At least 75p in every pound goes to the charity - unlike charity cards sold in shops where only a few pence goes to the charity.  The shop is open until the 15th December.

Christmas Greetings - There will be a board available in the entrance to St Cuthbert's Church from Thursday, 29th November, so that we can pin a card to the board to send our Christmas greetings to each other.  The money that we save on sending individual cards will be donated to The Children's Society.  We did this last year and it was quite a success.

Wallet returned - We have received a kind donation of £20 from the young man whose wallet we returned after Graham Wearne found it outside St Cuthbert's Church

Carol Services - All are welcome to any of the following:-

Lost key - A silver 5 lever key with a blue tab (with gold Viking head embossed on it) has been found.  If you know anyone who has lost such a key, please contact David Graves on 271 4420.

Sound System and Hearing Loop for St Cuthbert's Church - Following several requests for a hearing loop to be installed in St Cuthbert's Church, the PCC has obtained a quote for £3,800 to install a new sound system complete with hearing loop and radio microphone so you can hear the priest leading the service whether they are up at the altar, in the pulpit or anywhere else in church.  The quote is from the highly recommended firm who installed the system at Burton Overy.  The church can use a legacy of £1,000. and Libby Carr's generous donation of £750. (Leicester Grammar School payment for car parking in her field).  The vicar has agreed to make a substantial donation if others will also make donations to enable us to purchase this system.

Humour is a gift – True sentence typed by a medical secretary:  "The patient has no previous history of suicide."

Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy has a hearing loop as part of the loudspeaker system.  If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you will hear the service clearly.

Lifts to Services - If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton and they will arrange one for you.

Please pray:-

·         For Richard Shepherd, John Spencer, Myra Humphrey, Joyce Whelband, Judith Buffrey’s grandson Joel, Marion McArragher, and all who are ill.
·         For the bereaved and all who are struggling with the thought of preparing for Christmas.
·         For everyone to enjoy the true meaning of Christmas.
·         For those affected by the recent flooding.
·         For a way to peace in Syria and Gaza.

Proverb of the Week:  “The glory of the young is their strength; the grey hair of experience is the splendour of the old.” (Proverbs 20 v 29)
