At Communion Services

If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine.   Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing.  Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing.   If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

NOTICES

Mary's Institution as Rector of Great & Little Harrowden, Orlingbury, Isham & Pytchley will take place on Sunday, 5th May at 3.30 p.m. at St Mary's Church, Little Harrowden.  Her last Sunday here will be 21st April - but she is going to return to lead the Rogation Sunday Pilgrimage for one last time - here's hoping the weather's an improvement on last year!!  For refreshment and seating purposes, the churchwardens at Little Harrowden would like some idea of how many people might attend Mary's service of Institution by the end of March so please can you contact David Graves (271 4420, email davidjgraves@btinternet.com) of Anne Bloor (259 2550, email bloor@burtonovery.freeserve.co.uk) if you think you might be going - Little Harrowden is about 35 minutes from Great Glen.

A Lent Challenge - to get to know the names of all the people who attend your church's services!  Shy people would appreciate a bit of help with this challenge from those who are more gregarious or have more local knowledge or better memories!

Lent Courses - In Glen, each Wednesday session starts at 7.30 p.m. at Glen Methodist Church.  DO COME even if you can't attend all the sessions!

Smeeton Westerby is running a course on Monday evenings (7.30 - 9 p.m. in church) on "Mary - for Christians and Muslims" -

4th March - Revd Bonnie Evans-Hills - Mary for Shia Muslims

11th March - Miss Sughra Ahmed Markfield Institute- Mary for Sunni Muslims

18th March - Father Fabian Radcliffe - Mary for Roman Catholics

25th March - Revd Ludger Fremmer - Mary for Anglicans

St Andrew's Fund Raising Meeting takes place on Thursday, 7th March at 7.30 p.m. in Burton Overy Village Hall.  Please come and join us to discuss ways in which we can raise the £46,000 for our Death Watch Beetle Fund.  Everyone welcome.  Light refreshments will be provided.

Sparklers is going to need a leader (preferably two leaders) to run it after Easter.  There is a team of young mums who do the crafts, so it's not very time-consuming.  Tessa Mynott will also need some assistance with Messy Church (about three times a term) and Carol Neal would like a partner to work with her with Timeout (once a month).

Bishop Tim has asked us to pray for his daughter, Rachel, who was diagnosed with breast cancer on Ash Wednesday.  He also asks for our understanding if he is unable to keep his diary commitments.  We need to keep the whole family in our prayers as she embarks on the necessary treatment.

Renewal of Church Electoral Rolls -  Please return your completed forms to Richard Bloor by 21st March or to Roger Hickling by 27th March. Being on a church electoral roll is a way of expressing your interest in the church - the total number is a good indication of the life of a church to potential new Vicars.  The Annual Meeting for Burton Overy/Carlton Curlieu is on Thursday evening, 18th April, and the Annual Meeting for Great Glen is on Wednesday evening, 24th April.

Easter Lilies - If anyone would like to make a contribution towards the church Easter lilies at Great Glen, would you please give your donation to Arthur Whitfield as soon as possible.

Buy a Mothering Sunday gift and help transform a life - On Mothering Sunday (10th March) as you remember your mothers, could we ask you to do something a little different?  Would you consider helping to change the lives of people all over the world by buying a "Make a Mother's Day Gift"?  Please look at the "Make a Mother's Day" brochure placed on the table in Church, take it home and read about some of the projects that Mothers' Union members support.  Will you please consider buying a gift that can help change the lives of people all over the world by helping to fund a project which can help to make a real difference to a mother and her family's lives.  On receipt of your gift, the Mothers' Union will send you a Mothering Sunday Card (unless you request no card) to give to your mother.  Alternatively, you can give a gift in memory of your mother and MU will write your mother's name into a Remembrance Book which will be kept in the chapel at Mary Sumner House (the HQ of Mothers' Union).  If you would like to know more about "Make a Mother's Day, please contact either Amy Cooke (Great Glen) or Heather Selvey-Willars (Burton Overy) or visit www.makeamothersday.org.  Thank you.

Great Glen Village Hall Film Shows - Saturday, 9th March, is the date for the next film show at Great Glen Village Hall.  The film to be shown is "Skyfall" (James Bond).  On Saturday, 13th April, the film will be "Argo".  Tickets available from Great Glen Post Office.
