At Communion Services

If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine.   Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing.  Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing.   If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

FUTURE EVENTS

Monday, 18th March - Great Glen PCC

NOTICES

Breakfast will be served after the 8.30 a.m. service at St Cuthbert's Church TODAY!  Do stop and enjoy a cup of coffee/tea and a hot croissant with us - and a pleasant chat!  Church breakfasts are served on the second Sunday of each month.

Renewal of Church Electoral Rolls -  Please return your completed forms to Richard Bloor by 21st March or to Roger Hickling by 27th March. Being on a church electoral roll is a way of expressing your interest in the church - the total number is a good indication of the life of a church to potential new Vicars.  The Annual Meeting for Burton Overy/Carlton Curlieu is on Thursday evening, 18th April, and the Annual Meeting for Great Glen is on Wednesday evening, 24th April.

Messy Church takes place in the Community Lounge of St Cuthbert's School on Thursday, 14th March , from 3.30 until 4.30 p.m.  Do bring your children or grandchildren to join in the fun.  We begin with refreshments and a bible story before embarking on the messy stuff - overalls provided!

There will be a pony as usual to take part in the procession after the Palm Sunday service which begins at 10.30 a.m. at Burton Overy church on Sunday, 24th March.  The children make palm branches during the service to use during the procession - it's a family event for everyone .  Do come and the pony will happily be patted and be sat upon afterwards.

Good Friday Breakfast - Songs, prayers and activities for all ages will take place as usual from 8 a.m. in Burton Overy Village Hall.  Do come and join us!

Easter Sunday United Service - Following breakfast in the Methodist church hall, we shall start the 10.30 a.m. Family Service in the Methodist Church (with the young families downstairs this year!), then process up to St Cuthbert's for the Holy Communion part of the service, followed by the children's Easter Egg treasure hunt.

Mary's Institution as Rector of Great & Little Harrowden, Orlingbury, Isham & Pytchley will take place on Sunday, 5th May at 3.30 p.m. at       St Mary's Church, Little Harrowden.  Her last Sunday here will be 21st April - but she is going to return to lead the Rogation Sunday Pilgrimage for one last time - here's hoping the weather's an improvement on last year!!  For refreshment and seating purposes, the churchwardens at Little Harrowden would like some idea of how many people might attend Mary's service of Institution by the end of March so please can you contact David Graves (271 4420, email davidjgraves@btinternet.com) or Anne Bloor (259 2550, email bloor@burtonovery.freeserve.co.uk) if you think you might be going - Little Harrowden is about 35 minutes from Great Glen.

Lent Courses -Each Wednesday session starts at 7.30 p.m. at Glen Methodist Church.  We are doing a York course called "Glimpses of God".  DO COME even if you can't attend all the sessions!

Sparklers is going to need a leader (preferably two leaders) to run it after Easter.  There is a team of young mums who do the crafts, so it's not very time-consuming.  Tessa Mynott will also need some assistance with Messy Church (about three times a term) and Carol Neal would like a partner to work with her with Timeout (once a month).

Easter Lilies - If anyone would like to make a contribution towards the church Easter lilies at Great Glen, would you please give your donation to Arthur Whitfield as soon as possible.

The City of Leicester Singers concert takes place on Saturday, 16th March 2013 at St James the Greater church from 7.30 p.m.  The programme includes Stabat Mater by Haydn, Mealor.  Tickets £13 (concessions £11) under 16 free.  boxoffice@cityofleicestersingers

Craft Fair at Scraptoft - A Craft Fair organised by The Friends of All Saints Church, Scraptoft will be held on Saturday, 23rd March from 10 a.m. until 3.30 p.m.  Stalls will be genuine crafts only.  Refreshments will be available on the day.  Entry fee £1.  All proceeds towards the upkeep and maintenance of the church.

Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy has a hearing loop as part of the loudspeaker system.  If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you will hear the service clearly.

Children during the 10.30 a.m. Communion Services - There are bible quizzes, colouring pictures, bible stories, etc available in a children's area in the north aisle (whether at Glen or Burton).  We hope that all children will come to the altar with their families to receive a blessing (or communion if they normally receive this).

Lifts to Services – If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton Overy and they will arrange one for you.

Humour is a gift – Written by an NHS medical secretary:  "Healthy appearing decrepit 69-year old male, mentally alert but forgetful."

Please pray:-
·         For Jaxon Marsh and his parents John and Angela as they bring up their young family.
·         For John Spencer, Phyllis Stanley, Laura Record, ,Myra Humphrey, Judith Buffrey’s grandson Joel, Rachel Stevens, and all who are ill.
·         For us to keep the promises we make.
·         For the people working in the service industry.
·         For the Syrian refugees fleeing from the civil war in their country
