At Communion Services

If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine.   Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing.  Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing.   If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

NOTICES

Remedial works to the north porch - Work is progressing well on the repairs to the porch.  However the porch must remain closed until this work is completed and consequently the toilets are still not in use.   Access to the church will only be gained via the south porch.  It is suggested that anyone approaching from Church Road use the kissing gate and footpath to the side to keep well away from the building site.

Car Parking - For safety reasons, please ensure that when attending Church services you do not park within 35 metres of the old A6 junction.

Hearing Loop - Due to the change of plan and the extent of the porch repair work, the loop will be installed sometime in August.

Death Watch Beetle Fund at St Andrew's - Thank you to everyone who has supported this important fund-raising project.  There has now been five specific fund-raising events, all of which have been very successful and have raised significant sums.  The Children's Variety Show raised £600; the Tom Bowes Concert raised £805;  the Round Leicestershire Sponsored Walk is expected o raise between £3,500 and £4,000 (difficult to be precise since money is still coming in);  The Scarecrow Festival raised £5,300 after expenses.  This is a magnificent effort by everyone and means that we can confidently look forward to being able to pay for the necessary works.  I do not have the cumulative total but we are doing well.  We all need a good rest over the summer period before "girding our loins" for one last effort with the Christmas Tree Festival which will take place on the 6th - 8th December.     ROBERT BROWN

Book of Congratulations for Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - As the nation greets the new prince, Leicester Cathedral is providing a book of congratulations which people visiting the Cathedral are invited to sign and add a personal message of welcome.  The Dean of Leicester, the Very Revd David Monteith, said "We hope that the many people who took Kate to their hearts as she began her life within the Royal Family will be pleased to have the opportunity to send her and the Duke congratulations and wish the new Prince well".  The book will be available at all times that the Cathedral is open, currently 8.30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Cathedral Fun Day marks Bosworth Anniversary - To mark the anniversary of the Battle of Bosworth on Thursday, 22nd August, Leicester Cathedral will host a family fun afternoon from 3 p.m. until
5 p.m.  A Choral Evensong will follow at 5.30 p.m. in the Cathedral with Bishop Tim.  The programme of events for the afternoon will include an interactive puppeteer who will also be involved in some group dancing activity and singing.  A medieval re-enactor will be joining the puppeteer and will make himself available to talk to visitors and show off his armour.  During the Choral Evensong, the winner of the White Rose Competition will read one of the set readings for the service and members from the Richard III Society will be laying white roses.  The choir from Nottingham Cathedral will be singing the service.  It promises o be a great afternoon and all are very welcome.

Wistow Choral Evensong on Sunday, 25th August 2013 at 6 p.m. - There will be a Choral Evensong from the Book of Common Prayer at St Wistan's with a choir from St Mary De Castro.  All welcome.

WHY NOT put an extra can or packet in your shopping basket to bring to church services.  St Cuthbert’s supports Leicester Cathedral’s Welcome Group for destitute asylum seekers and St Andrew’s supports a homeless charity –items such as rice, pasta (mainly spaghetti), oil, sugar, tea, coffee, tinned goods (tomatoes, fruit, meat, fish, baked beans and sweet corn), shampoo, shower-gel, toothpaste, deodorants, shaving cream/gel and blades.

The Benefice Prayer Group will continue to meet on Wednesday mornings to pray for the people and issues in our churches, villages and the wider world.  There is a Prayer Request Box at the back of St Cuthbert’s Church – please do use it and encourage everyone to use it whether they share our faith and our church-going habits or not!

Lifts to Services – If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton Overy and they will arrange one for you.

Humour is a gift – Written by an NHS medical secretary:  "The patient has been depressed since she began seeing me in 1993."

Please pray:-

·         For Katie Daniels and Brian Scranage as they begin married life.
·         For Jim Dunning, Peter Wood, John Spencer, Myra Humphrey, Maureen Lochhead, Judith Buffrey’s grandson Joel, Rachel Stevens, and all who are ill.
·         For all afflicted by violence in Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Africa and elsewhere, and for all trying to bring peace to the troubled areas of our world.
·         For all involved in the process of appointing our new Vicar that they might in due course make an appointment that will be suitable for the needs of our three parishes.

Proverb of the Week:  “Righteous people know the kind thing to say, but the wicked are always saying things that hurt.” (Proverbs 10 v32)
