NOTICES
The
Choral Evensong tonight (transferred from Burton Overy) will be led
by Roger Flowers. There is a visiting
choir, 1972 Consort, who will sing the BCP Evensong. Do support this lovely traditional service.
Remedial
works to the north porch have now been completed and the porch is
again useable for access to the church and the toilets are back in use. However, a small amount of further work to
the porch will be carried out shortly.
Ride and
Stride Day
takes place this year on Saturday, 14th
September. Take the chance to cycle
or walk around the churches and chapels of Leicester and Leicestershire. Around 400 will be open from 10 a.m. until 6
p.m. for this event. This is great
opportunity to raise money for the church.
Sponsorship forms are in all the churches of the Benefice.
Time Out returns on
Saturday, 14th September from 4 until 6 p.m. and is being held in St Cuthbert's
Church.
St Andrew's,
Burton Overy
- Preliminary investigation on the chancel roof of Burton Overy Church has
revealed that it is collapsing and is dangerous. Therefore the Church is temporarily closed
whilst work is carried out on the roof.
The following services are being transferred to St Cuthbert's :-
8th
September 6.30 p.m. Evensong
22nd
September 10.30 a.m. Holy Communion
The 8.30 a.m. Holy Communion on the 29th September is being transferred to St
Mary's, Carlton Curlieu and will be conducted by the Very Revd Derek Hole.
Those on the Burton Overy rota will be
informed and are asked to transfer their duties - apart from the bell
ringers! It is expected that the roof
will be made safe and the Church ready for use again in October so that the
Church will be available for decoration for the Burton Overy Harvest Festival
on Tuesday, 1st October.
Harvest
Festival Services - Please note that the Harvest Family Service will take
place at St Cuthbert's Church on Sunday, 29th September at 10.30 a.m. This will be followed by a "Bring and
Share" lunch at the Methodist Church rooms. In the evening at 6.30 p.m. there will be a
Harvest Choral Evensong at St Cuthbert's.
Do come to this lovely traditional service and see the Church
beautifully decorated for Harvest. On
Sunday, the 6th October at 10.30 a.m. St Andrew's at Burton Overy will be
holding their Harvest Festival Service.
Wanted
- Coffee Helpers! Could you spare
an hour an a Monday morning to come to Sparklers to make the coffee and drinks
for the children? This pre-school church
group meets at the Methodist Church Hall in Great Glen at 9.30 a.m. when we
have a bible story, sing songs, say prayers and play and have coffee! Anne Folwell (259 2052) co-ordinates the
coffee rota - please ring her. The more
helpers we have, the easier for all!
The
Village Cinema will be showing the outstanding film "Les
Miserables" on Saturday, 14th September, at 7 p.m. at Great Glen Village
Hall. There will also be a raffle and a
bar. Tickets are £4 each and are
available from the Post Office.
Launde Abbey Fun Day - The Launde Abbey Fun Day on Bank Holiday Monday was a
rip-roaring success with record numbers and large sums raised for the
Leicestershire Retreat House. The Abbey,
which is a charitable trust, relies on its fund raising events to raise
valuable income for its work throughout the year. The Abbey runs a number of family events
throughout the year including Christmas Lunches and a cabaret event in
December, a Snowdrop Sunday Spectacular in March and a variety of lunches for
special days such as Mothering Sunday.
There are also several concerts and afternoon music events scheduled for
2014. For
more information, please contact Suzanne on 01572 717 254 or email her at
suzanne@launde.org.uk.
Humour
is a gift
– Written by an NHS medical secretary:
"She is numb from her toes down."
Please
pray:-
·
For the family and friends of Sybil Berry who
died recently
·
For Jim Dunning, Peter Wood, John Spencer, Myra
Humphrey, Judith Buffrey’s grandson Joel, Rachel Stevens, and all who are ill.
·
For all students returning to schools,
colleges and universities after the long summer break.
·
For our farmers that they may complete the
harvest of their crops during this spell of good weather.
·
For Syria, that this terrible conflict may be
resolved and that peace may return to all the troubled areas of the Middle East
affected by uprisings and wars.

right, but remember that the Lord judges your motives.” (Proverbs 21 v2)
