At Communion Services

If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine.   Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing.  Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing.   If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

Mosaic Concert on Wednesday, 18th December at Burton Overy - Many of you will remember the group Mosaic coming last Christmas to give a concert of Christmas music.  They are very kindly coming again so look out for details of what promises to be another lovely evening of beautiful singing.

Concert at St Cuthbert's on 22nd March 2014 - We have booked Yvonne Bloor, an accomplished classical guitarist and composer to give a concert.  Yvonne has given concerts in many parts of the UK and abroad and her CD "Promise" was released last December.  It promises to be an entertaining concert given by a very high-quality artist.  It will also be a fund raising event for the Parish.  Please put this date into your diaries now.  Full details or the arrangements for the concert will be announced early in the New Year.

NOTICES

Hearing Loop at St Cuthbert's - Work on the hearing loop at St Cuthbert's has now been completed.  If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you will hear the service clearly.

Time to Say Goodbye - Graham and Jenny Wearne will be moving to Somerset in December and would like to say farewell to all their friends in Great Glen and Burton Overy on Thursday morning, the 28th November 2013, at the "Drop-In" in St Cuthbert's Church at 10.30 a.m.  See you there - please come along!

Church Magazine - A way to support the church and keep informed at the same time - Do you already subscribe and receive the re-styled quarterly magazine?  If not, for the modest cost of £7 for four issues a year the magazine will be delivered to you.  If you do already receive the magazine, why not encourage your friends and neighbours to subscribe too?  For further information/inclusion on the distribution list, please contact Lesley Selway on 259 2605.

Burton Overy Christmas Tree Festival this year is being held on Friday, 6th, to Sunday, 8th December.  Lots of trees are needed to make this the spectacular display it always becomes.  Please enter!  The Festival will end with a short service at 5.30 p.m. in the church (NOT 6.30 as listed in the services in the Magazine).  Proceeds from the festival will go to the Death Watch Beetle Fund and the Village Hall.

The next Messy Church takes place at the Community Centre at St Cuthbert's School on Monday, 2nd December, from 3.30 p.m. until
4.30 p.m.  This is for children up to 11 years of age with their parents or carers.  The children enjoy listening to a Bible story, having a drink and something to eat.  They also take part in activities which usually involve much painting and creating mess!  Do come along with your child/children.

Lost Property - Found in St Cuthbert's Church Cemetery a piece of jewellery.  Will the owner please contact Alan Selway on 259 2605.

The Charity Christmas Card Shop at Leicester Cathedral is to open on Thursday, 17th October.  The store sells cards for more than two dozen national and local charities.  The charities receive 70p from every £1 taken (unlike charity cards bought from retailers who only give a few pence to the charity).  Not only are Christmas cards an important source of funding for the charities, they also help to raise awareness of their work.  The shop will open six days a week until Saturday, 14th December from 10 a.m. until
4 p.m.

Concert celebrating the 50 year anniversary of the church organ takes place on Saturday, 9th November, at 7.30 p.m. at All Saints' Church, Church Street, Blaby with Robert Foreman (Organist), Kate Watkiss (Alto) and Sarah Watkiss (Soprano).  Tickets £7.

Lifts to Services – If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton Overy and they will arrange one for you.

Keeping people in touch – Please do take copies of this news-sheet to anyone you know who might be interested, especially to those who can’t get to church at the moment.

Humour is a gift – Written by an NHS medical secretary:  "The patient is tearful and crying constantly.  She also appears to be depressed."

Please pray:-
·         For Peter Wood, John Spencer, Myra Humphrey, Judith Buffrey’s grandson Joel, Rachel Stevens, and all who are ill.
·         For our village doctors, teachers, youth leaders, shopkeepers and all who serve our village so admirably.
·         That the storms which are over our country this week may pass without loss of life and with minimal damage.
·         For peace in all the troubled middle eastern countries.

Proverb of the Week:  “Be careful what you say and protect your life.  A careless talker destroys himself.” (Proverbs 13 v3)
