At Communion Services

If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine.   Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing.  Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing.   If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

NOTICES

A Big "Thank-you" to everyone who decorated our three churches so beautifully at Easter.  The churches all looked truly magnificent and their efforts were very much appreciated by all.

Sunday, 11th May, at 6.30 p.m. at St Andrew's, Burton Overy - Once again the visiting choir of former Cathedral choristers will be singing Evensong.  We are very pleased to welcome them again to Burton Overy.

Drop-In at St Cuthbert's Church now takes place on the first Thursday of each month at 10.30 a.m.  Do come along and join us for a cup of coffee and a chat.

Messy Church - The next Messy Church takes place at St Cuthbert's Primary School on Monday 12th May from 3.30 p.m. until 4.30 p.m.  Messy Church is for children up to 11 years of age with their parents or carers.

Summer Barbecue - David and Kate Alexander have offered their garden to be used for a summer barbecue to raise funds for
St Cuthbert's Church.  David Webster is currently trying to find someone to actually do the cooking but we will need volunteers to help leading up to the event and actually on the day.  Would anyone who is happy to help, please give their name to David Webster or Roger Flowers.

Cathedral launches new King Richard III website - Leicester Cathedral has launched a new website www.kingrichardinleicester.com telling the story of King Richard III and his 500 year place in Leicester's history. The Bishop and Dean of Leicester state their passionate desire to see that the mortal remains of the King are treated with dignity and honour and are re-buried as soon as possible in the city where he has belonged since his death.  The website is a resource for the facts about Richard III and Leicester and includes a short video, facts and fiction about the story and demonstrates the partnership within which the Cathedral is working.

WHY NOT put an extra can or packet in your shopping basket to bring to church services.  St Cuthbert’s supports Leicester Cathedral’s Welcome Group for destitute asylum seekers and St Andrew’s supports a homeless charity –items such as rice, pasta (mainly spaghetti), oil, sugar, tea, coffee, tinned goods (tomatoes, fruit, meat, fish, baked beans and sweet corn), shampoo, shower-gel, toothpaste, deodorants, shaving cream/gel and blades.

The Benefice Prayer Group will continue to meet on Wednesday mornings to pray for the people and issues in our churches, villages and the wider world.  There is a Prayer Request Box at the back of St Cuthbert’s Church – please do use it and encourage everyone to use it whether they share our faith and our church-going habits or not!

A Coffee Morning and Table Top Sale is taking place at St Paul & St Augustine Worship Centre in Kirby Road, Leicester on Saturday, 10th May, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.  There will also be a plant sale.  Proceeds will be given to Christian Aid.

Events at Launde Abbey this year include Pudding Nights and Steak Nights, as well as a variety of musical events throughout the summer and autumn and the restaurant is open daily for lunches, snacks and afternoon teas. Please call the General Office on 01572 717254 for more information or visit the website http://www.laundeabbey.org.uk.

Keeping people in touch – Please do take copies of this news-sheet to anyone you know who might be interested, especially to those who can’t get to church at the moment.

Lifts to Services – If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton Overy and they will arrange one for you.

Humour is a Gift - The World's Stupidest Signs : In an Office : "After tea break, staff should empty the teapot and stand upside down on the draining board."

Please pray:-

·         For David Neal, Peter Folwell, Alan and Lesley Selway, Phyllis Stanley, Keith Blythe, Margaret Wood, Peter Wood, Arthur Whitfield, John Spencer, Myra Humphrey, Judith Buffrey’s grandson Joel, the Revd Jeremy Phelps (son of a former priest at Burton Overy who has been involved in a motor accident) Katherine, Anna Richerby, and all who are ill.
·         For George Pease who is to be confirmed at Uppingham on Sunday, 4th May.
·         For the McCann family as the anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance and her birthday are imminent.
·         For the people in Ukraine and Syria, that peace may return.
