At Communion Services

If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine.  Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing.  Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing.   If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

Appointment of our new Vicar  Here is an extract from the Bishop’s letter to the Churchwardens:
“Following recently held interviews it is announced that the Revd Kim Ford, Assistant Curate in the Benefice of Market Harborough and the Transfiguration – Little Bowden with Lubenham and Great Bowden - has been offered the post as Priest in charge of Great Glen with Burton Overy and Carlton Curlieu (Team Vicar Designate in a new Team Ministry with the Oadby Parishes in the Gartree Second (Wigston) Deanery.”
She has now accepted this offer and we will look forward to welcoming the Revd Kim and her family to our benefice in due course.

Drop-In at St Cuthbert's Church takes place on the first Thursday of each month at 10.0 – 11.30 a.m.

The Benefice Prayer Group will continue to meet on Wednesday mornings to pray for the people and issues in our churches, villages and the wider world.  There is a Prayer Request Box at the back of St Cuthbert’s Church – please do use it and encourage everyone to use it whether they share our faith and our church-going habits or not!

Sparklers will be taking a summer break and will resume in September.

Flowers for Commemorative Service  St Cuthbert’s Church will be open on Friday afternoon and Saturday Morning, 1st and 2nd August, for flower arrangers to decorate the Church in readiness for the service on Sunday morning. 

.Classical Guitar Concert 7.30 p.m. Wednesday 6th August at St Cuthbert’s Church.  Support for this event has so far been very slow.  If you want tickets (£8 each or £10 on the door to include Strawberries & Fizz  and soft drinks will also be available) would you please contact : Roger Flowers, Tel. 0776 879 4662; David Webster, Tel: 2593717; or Anne Bloor Tel: 2592440 as soon as possible.

Leicester Anglican Cursillo are holding their next meeting here at St Cuthbert’s Church at 7.30pm on Thursday 7th August. All welcome.  Please see Carole Henson or e-mail hensonc@talk21.com or Amy Cook or e-mail amy@cooksonline.net for details.

We need your support for the Hog Roast A Family Hog Roast has been arranged for Saturday 16th August at 6.30p.m. at 2 Stretton Road by kind permission of David and Kate Alexander.  Ticket sales for this event have so far been very slow, so if you are thinking of coming please contact Roger Flowers, Tel. 0776 879 4662; or David Webster, Tel: 2593717 as soon as possible.  We will also need volunteers to help leading up to the event and actually on the day.  Would anyone who is happy to help, please give their name to David Webster or Roger Flowers..  Tickets are £10 each for adults and £6 for children over 5.  On the menu:  Pork Roll, Stuffing, Apple Sauce and Crackling, a selection of salads and desserts. 

WHY NOT put an extra can or packet in your shopping basket to bring to church services.  St Cuthbert’s supports Leicester Cathedral’s Welcome Group for destitute asylum seekers and St Andrew’s supports a homeless charity.  Suggestions: rice, pasta (mainly spaghetti), oil, sugar, tea, coffee, tinned goods (tomatoes, fruit, meat, fish, baked beans and sweet corn), shampoo, shower-gel, toothpaste, deodorants, shaving cream/gel.
Keeping people in touch – Please do take copies of this news-sheet to anyone you know who might be interested, especially to those who can’t get to church at the moment.

 
Lifts to Services – If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton Overy and they will arrange one for you.

·         For David Neal, Peter Folwell, Phyllis Stanley, Margaret Wood, Peter Wood, Arthur Whitfield, Myra Humphrey, Terry Taylor, Julia Burrows, Pam Goadby, Jennifer Grant (who is recovering from surgery), Rachel Stevens (the daughter of Bishop Tim and Wendi), and all who are ill.
·         For the souls of John Spencer, Monica Dunlop, and Dodie Cassie whose funerals took place recently at St Cuthbert’s Church
·         For the Families and friends of the people who lost their lives as a result of the shooting down of the Malaysian aircraft.
·         For the people in Ukraine, Syria, Iraq, and Gaza, that peace may return.
