NOTICES

PENTECOST - As you have seen in the notices the Archbishops have called us to prayer over the week leading up to Pentecost. I have asked Garry Bedford to create some prayer stations for us at St Cuthbert's. He has planned to do 4 stations around the theme of the Lord's prayer. The idea is to have the church open between 10 am - 2 pm on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday May 11-14. Also from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm Wed, Thurs and Friday for those who work. For this to work we will need to have volunteers to be in the church for those hours. I have placed a sign up sheet at the back of the church so if you are willing to do one or two hours during that time please sign up. You won't be required to do anything other than welcome people and show them where the stations are. Each station will have instructions on it to explain what to do. Please do come and join us in prayer during those 4 days. If you have any questions please see Kim. To finish that week we will be joining St Peter's in Oadby to celebrate Pentecost with Bishop John Smiley of Wyoming

TIME OF QUIET PRAYER AND MEDITATION, 11th May 3.30 to 4.30pm. at 20, Kingfisher Close. This is a  focus for the call to national prayer from Archbishop Justin  Welby during the week before Pentecost /Whit Sunday.  For more information ,contact Christine  Higgins  on 259 2624 or chrisples@btinternet.com    Otherwise please just come along.
ORGANIST We will say goodbye to Andrew Painter as our regular organist at the Pentecost ‘Big’ Evensong on 15th May.  Andrew has said that he will still come and play for us if we need him for special services.  We would like to thank him for playing our organ so well in the time he has been with us – it has been a pleasure to hear it played fully, as Arthur used to do, and we will miss Andrew greatly.  In the meantime, Moira, Carol and occasionally Anne will do our best to fill in.  Do come to the evening service on 15th May and say thank you personally.

SAVE THE DATE! June 11th is our Church Fete we are now looking for items to sell and for the raffle please see our flyer! Also coming up on July 2nd will be our benefice BBQ in David Alexander's garden. More details will follow.

LADIES NIGHT OUT this month is on Wednesday May 25th at 7.30pm, and will be at Oadby’s Grange Farm Pub.  The next evening out is June 29th. This is a group of ladies who enjoy good fellowship, combined with a meal out. If you would like to book your place or want to enquire more, please see Carole Henson or e-mail/telephone hensonc@talk21.com 0116 2403368

BISHOP MARTYN SNOW Everyone is invited  to a Service of Welcome on Saturday 14 May, the eve of Pentecost, in the Cathedral at 2.30 pm, when Bishop Martyn will be installed as the 7th Bishop of Leicester. The first part of the service will be inside the cathedral, then everyone will be invited to move outside for the sermon and prayers and to stay on for a free party in Cathedral Gardens.  There will be a large TV screen outside the cathedral and a sound link so that those inside or outside can see and hear all that will go on. Invitations have already gone out across our diocesan family and wider community for those who will be able to have seats inside the cathedral itself.  However, there is also an invitation to everyone who wishes to be present to join the great gathering in Cathedral Gardens. Please come along as individuals or groups.  Please note there will be a small amount of seating outside for those with particular physical needs. Everyone is asked to wear something red or orange or yellow to signify the flames of Pentecost. Please come along expecting weather of all kinds! Parking is available in nearby city centre public parking. Everyone will be most welcome.

Please pray for:-
  • ·        Margaret Bannister, Kit Burrows, Will Johnston, Elizabeth Tacey, Martin Tacey, and all who are ill.
  • ·        the people in Ukraine, Syria, Iraq, and Gaza, and all other places of conflict in the world, that peace may return
