News in the Pews
Sunday 11th August – Eighth Sunday of Trinity
Collect for Today
Lord
God,
your
Son left the riches of heaven
and
became poor for our sake:
when
we prosper save us from pride,
when
we are needy save us from despair,
that
we may trust in you alone;
through
Jesus Christ our Lord.
Post Communion Prayer
Strengthen
for service, Lord,
the
hands that have taken holy things;
may
the ears which have heard your word be deaf to clamour and dispute;
may
the tongues which have sung your praise be free from deceit;
may
the eyes which have seen the tokens of your love shine with the light of hope;
and
may the bodies which have been fed with your body be refreshed with the
fullness of your life;
glory
to you for ever.

Ride
& Stride - Saturday 14th September at St Cuthbert’s Church
We can all help to raise some money for the
church on this day. Sponsor forms are now in all the churches for this
event which is organised every year by the Leicestershire Historic Churches
Trust. Nearly every church door in Leicester and Leicestershire will be
open on this day, including Great Glen, Burton Overy and Carlton Curlieu.
You can cycle ride or walk around as many churches as you like.
Please support the day in some way - cycling, walking, or manning our own
churches and of course sponsoring any who are riding or striding. All money
raised is shared equally between the church of your choice and the
Historic Churches Trust in Leicestershire which gives grants to churches to
help with restoration costs – Many thanks, Anne Bloor

A personal thank you from Kim: Dear all, I want to
thank you for your prayers considering my operation. I have now received a date
for the 22nd of August. Please continue to pray that it is not
cancelled! I will be away for 5 weeks following the operation. We will have a 3rd
Year Curate, Gareth Hutchinson, who will be coming to cover my absence. Please
make him feel welcome as he joins us. Sarah of course is with us and will work
with Gareth during this time. Thank you again for your prayers and support.
Sarah will be available
for these 5 weeks should anyone need to talk or have issues that need resolved
as well as our lay ministers and churchwardens.
Message from Gareth Hutchinson:
I’m Gareth and am married to Laura, we have two boys
Noah (aged 9) and Eli (aged 5). Although I’m originally form Northern
Ireland I’ve spent most of my life in England primarily in Swindon, which is
where Laura and I started our married life together, before moving to Bristol
for Bible college. We’ve been in curacy at Church of the Martyrs in
Leicester for just over 2 years. Laura works part time as a teacher and
then runs a charity named Leicester Baby Basics which supplies good quality
second-hand baby kit to families who otherwise would not be able to afford the
essentials. For fun times together we like canoeing, Lego and ice-cream,
although probably not all at the same time. And our desire is to see more
of who God is and what He’s doing both in our lives and in the lives of those we
encounter.
Choir Practice
The
next choir practice will be on Friday 23rd August.
