At Communion Services
If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine. Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing. Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing. If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

NOTICES

St Cuthbert’s Church Fete – We shall be holding a fete in and around the church on Saturday, 4th June. We are asking for contributions for tombola, bottle stall, unwanted gifts, jigsaws and children’s toys (complete and in good condition please). There will be a box in church from 1st May. Offers of help to man a stall and to help with setting up and dismantling on the day would be greatly appreciated. Also books in good condition are wanted for a stall at the Church Fete on 4th June. Collection can be arranged. Please contact Amy Cook 259 2610.

Great Glen Charity – There is money to help people buy vital new equipment such as a washing machine if they’re stuck for funds so if ever you hear a comment like “I don’t know how I’m going to manage without ….” please get in touch with the Vicar or one of the other trustees.

Sparklers are very sad to say farewell to Lucy Newton and her family.
It was a phone call from Lucy that led to the creation of Sparklers and she has been a wonderful leader of the group. We would like to thank her very much for her contribution to our church life.

Sunday Breakfast – join us for breakfast at St. Cuthbert’s Church after the 8.30 am service on 12th June (and thereafter on the 2nd Sunday of each month) – a simple meal (cereals, toast, etc) for people to enjoy some company. It would be lovely if some 10.30 service people would come to join us. Sorry, no bacon & eggs!

News and Views – There has been some confusion about News and Views (the insert in your Parish Magazine). In the June edition of the Parish Magazine, it is stated that the June edition of News and Views would be the last one. However in actual fact, May’s edition was the last one

The well-known and respected theologian Alister McGrath (also author, lecturer, scientist and former atheist) has posted six short videos examining aspects of the new atheism. If you are interested in how to respond or to think more on the likes of Dawkins & Hitchens, then these are an excellent and free resource. They can be watched on the Shaped by God blog http://sbg.dioceseofleicester.com/?p=703

Come to Launde Abbey on Bank Holiday Monday (30th May) for a family day out and service of celebration. Special guests include Pam Rhodes from BBC ‘Songs of Praise’ and John Bell from the world famous Iona Community. The newly refurbished house is open to look around and there is entertainment all day, a ‘Big Sing’ for everyone with Pam Rhodes and John Bell at 12.45 p.m. and the service of celebration at 3 p.m. Grounds open at 10 a.m. - £5. per car.

Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy now has a hearing loop as part of the loudspeaker system. If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you will hear the service clearly.

Children during the 10.30 a.m. Communion Services - There are bible quizzes, colouring pictures, bible stories, etc available in a children’s area in the north aisle (whether at Glen or Burton). We hope that all children will come to the altar with their families to receive a blessing (or communion if they normally receive this).

Lifts to Services – If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton Overy and they will arrange one for you.

Humour is a Gift – Life’s Maxims:-

“Vital papers will demonstrate their vitality by moving from where you left them to where you can’t find them.”

Please pray:-

• For all who are ill or suffering.

• That children and teachers may enjoy a refreshing half-term.

• For our farmers at this difficult time.

• For co-operation between nations and peoples in the search for peace and prosperity for all.
