At Communion Services

If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine.   Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing.  Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing.   If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

NOTICES

LUNCH TODAY will be served in the Methodist Church Hall following the meeting about working with the Methodist Church.  Do come and join us, we had a great time sharing breakfast with our Methodist friends at Easter!

Thank you to Sylvia Hucknall and everyone else who helped raise £53.52 at the recent Bake & Brew Morning in aid of the Children’s Society.  The Children’s Society boxes were emptied and they raised a further £369.63 thanks to many people’s generosity.   Thanks are also due to Martin Tacey who patiently counted an awful lot of coins!!

Bible Study House Group meets onTuesday 18th September 7.30pm at The Springs, Carlton Lane, Burton Overy to finish their study of St Matthew's Gospel.  At our next meeting after this we intend to watch Pasolini's famous film of 'The Gospel According to St Matthew' following the biblical text.

Flower Demonstration by Rosemary Mason in aid of St. Cuthbert’s Church funds: The final sum raised from this event amounted to £330, thank you Amy and everyone who attended this fascinating event.

Midweek Holy Communion - Each month there is a short Holy Communion Service at 11.30 a.m. at St Cuthbert's Church after the Drop-In on a Thursday morning.  This is usually the second Thursday in the month but sometimes has to be a different Thursday depending upon the Vicar's diary.  Do come and bring any friends who might appreciate this.  It is usually a BCP service, depending on the wishes of those present.

The next Messy Church takes place in the Art Room at St. Cuthbert’s School on Wednesday 26th September, 3.30-4.30pm.  Suitable for all children under 11 years.  Do come with your children – they will have a great time!  We start with juice, fruit and biscuits.

Services in October - As you may have seen in the Parish Magazine, in October and early November there will be a run of non-communion services at the 10.30 a.m. services. Burton Overy has their Harvest Festival in October because the young families who organise their Harvest lunch are involved in running Team BOGG in September and St Cuthbert's Harvest Festival is also in October to allow the Primary School choir enough time at the beginning of the school term/year to prepare their contribution.  We also try to involve the Team BOGG youngsters in running a family service once their Grand Challenge is over and ... so it continues!  We hope you will understand and enjoy these special services as well as encouraging the young families who come - there is always Holy Communion at 8.30 a.m. and on Sunday, 21st October, there will be a lovely BCP Holy Communion at Carlton Curlieu at which St Cuthbert's choir will sing.

Humour is a giftLittle Johnny and his family were having Sunday dinner at his Grandmother's house. Everyone was seated around the table as the food was being served. When Little Johnny received his plate, he started eating right away.  "Johnny! Please wait until we say our prayer." said his mother. "I don't need to," the boy replied.  "Of course, you do "his mother insisted.

"We always say a prayer before eating at our house."  "That's at our house." Johnny explained. "But this is Grandma's house and she knows how to cook."
