NOTICES

Thank you everyone who provided such lovely food for the lunch we shared with our Methodist friends last Sunday.  At the meeting it was decided that we did not wish to proceed to a formal LEP union at the moment but that the two churches (St. Cuthbert’s & Glen Methodist) would gradually increase the sharing of worship, children and young families’ work, and other projects.  The steering group will henceforth be known as the Great Glen Churches Together Steering Group (GGCT Steering Group for short perhaps!) and Burton Overy has been invited to send a representative to join the group so that Burton and Carlton Curlieu churches are kept ‘in the loop’.  Our shared services will be described in future as a “United Service” in News in the Pews, parish magazines etc.  Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting.

The United Service at 10.30am on Sunday 21st October at Glen Methodist Church will now be a Holy Communion Service, not a Preaching Service as previously advertised.  This is a good example of a growing understanding of each other’s church and how to work together constructively for our mutual benefit.

MacMillan Cancer Support Laura Record is running a Health and Beauty Company Coffee Evening in aid of their funds at 7.30pm on Friday 28th September at 51 Oakside Crescent, Evington, LE5 6SL.  If you need some more beauty products or would like to see what she has to offer this is a  to help yourself and the charity!  Laura’s tel. no. is 07834 371703.

Conman about: Police have alerted us to a man targeting members of churches, synagogues, etc.  He usually tells his victims that a family member has died in a far away part of the UK and he needs to borrow money to get there to identify the body etc. He is EXTREMELY plausible.

FareShare: Can you give just half a day of Saturday October 6th or Sunday October 7th for a weekend food drive in Sainsbury’s stores in Leicestershire?  The task is to greet customers and ask them to buy an extra item of food from the Million Meal Appeal shopping list.  All volunteers will be provided with appropriate information, and will work along side Sainsbury’s staff in the stores.  If you would like to help please contact Jane Glennon, Project Lead, Million Meal Appeal

Humour is a giftThe preacher's 5 year-old daughter noticed that her father always paused and bowed his head for a moment before starting his sermon. One day, she asked him why.  "Well, Honey," he began, proud that his daughter was so observant of his messages. "I'm asking the Lord to help me preach a good sermon."   "How come He doesn't answer it?" she asked.

Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy has a hearing loop as part of the loudspeaker system.  If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you will hear the service clearly.
