NOTICES

Thank you everyone who provided such lovely food for the lunch we shared with our Methodist friends.  At the meeting, it was decided that we did not wish to proceed to a formal LEP union at the moment but that the two churches (St Cuthbert's and Glen Methodist) would gradually increase the sharing of worship, children and young families' work, and other projects.  The steering group will henceforth be known as the Great Glen Churches Together Steering Group (GGCT Steering Group for short perhaps!) and Burton Overy has been invited to send a representative to join the group so that Burton and Carlton Curlieu churches are kept 'in the loop'.  Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting.

Burton Overy Harvest Lunch: Sunday 7th October, 12.30pm 2 course hot meal in the village hall.  Tickets £8 (child £5) from Rebecca Broughton 259 0055.

Midweek Holy Communion - Each month there is a short Holy Communion Service at 11.30 a.m. at St Cuthbert's Church after the Drop-In on a Thursday morning.  The next one will be on Thursday, 18th October.  Do come and bring any friends who might appreciate this.  Do come and bring any friends who might appreciate this.  It is usually a BCP service, depending on the wishes of those present.

Services on Sunday, 21st October - The 10.30 a.m. service will be a Holy Communion Service at Glen Methodist Church and the 6.30mp.m. service will be a BCP Holy Communion Service at Carlton Curlieu where the singing will be led by St Cuthbert's Church Choir.  This is a slight change from what was published in the Parish Magazine.

Up-date re the new quarterly Church Magazine - It has been agreed that the annual charge for the four magazines will be £5.  The deadline for items to be included in the November to January issue is Monday, 8th October.  Please email copy direct to rogerandlynflowers@gmail.com

St Peter's Church, Oadby - On Thursday, 4th October at 6.30 p.m. there will be a great evening for those who love creation and the universe.  Listen to St Francis' love story for God's Creation.  Ends with a meditative and reflective Franciscan Prayer.

Conman about - Police have alerted us to an EXTREMELY plausible man targeting members of churches, synagogues, etc.  He usually tells his victims that a family member has died in a far away part of the UK and he needs to borrow money to get there to identify the body, etc.

LOROS Hospice - A virtual tour of their facilities can be seen on their website http://www.loros.co.uk   Contrary to many people's understanding LOROS is not a place for people to go to die.  They are real experts in making the most of the rest of life (far better than hospitals) and they help not only the patient but also their relatives.  People receiving  are from LOROS usually do so as day visitors, they usually only stay in the hospice for as long as it takes to sort out their medication, etc.  LOROS assist with nursing at home.  Why not have a look online to learn more about LOROS?  It's best to find out about these things when you don't need them - and you might one day be able to help someone else by passing on what you have discovered.

The Bishop's Lay Congress 2012 takes place on Saturday, 17th November from 9.30 a.m. until 3.45 p.m. at the Samworth Enterprise Academy, Trenant Road, Leicester, LE2 6UA.  It is entitled "God's Economy ....?  Christian approaches to the common good".  With crises in the global economy and financial markets, recession in the UK an d questions being raised about the way businesses and banks are operating, what's to be done?  What might Christian perspectives and values contribute to building something better, and what needs to change in our ways of organising our economic, political and social life to develop greater well being for individuals, communities and nations?

The Australian Voices appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.  Six singers are now on tour in the UK.  They will be appearing at St Mary's Church in Knighton on Sunday, 7th October, at 7 p.m.  They sing unaccompanied and their repertoire ranges from classical to modern.  Tickets on the door or from the website www.theaustralianvoices.com  Adults £15.  Concessions £12. and students £6.

Humour is a gift – When Kelli said her bedtime prayers, she would bless every family member, friend, and animal (current and past).  For several weeks after she finished her prayers, Kelli would say, "And all girls".  When asked "Kelli, why do you always add the part about all girls?", she responded "Because everybody always finishes their prayers by saying "All Men'!".

Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy has a hearing loop as part of the loudspeaker system.  If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you will hear the service clearly.

Lifts to Services - If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton and they will arrange one for you.
