At Communion Services
If you
are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to
receive the bread and wine. Otherwise
you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a
blessing. Keeping your hands down by
your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing. If you have difficulty coming up to the
Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a
sidesman.

NOTICES
Christmas Cafe: December 21st 11-1 Open to
all families. There will be crafts, toys to play with for
the really young, a sing-a-long with some Christmas Carols and finishing with
lunch. In
order for it to work Kim will need your help. She needs volunteers to bring food (even if
you can't be there on the day), others to sit at a table and help children with
crafts (provided) and others to help with lunch. If you can help please sign up on the sheet in
the back of church.
Services over the next few weeks. Please note
changes to times and services as the next three weeks are slightly different
due to Christmas and New Year being on a Sunday. In particular
Christmas Morning is at 10 am instead of 10:30 at St Cuthbert's and there is no
8:30 am Service on New Years day.
A huge thank you to the flower ladies, both at Great Glen and Burton Overy,
for the beautiful flower arrangements they do throughout the year and in
particular the lovely flowers at Christmas. Thank you for all of the hard work
in making the churches look so lovely. Also a
huge thank to all of those
behind the scenes whose volunteering helps make all of the services and
activities in all three of the churches possible throughout the year, and all
the extras that come at Christmas. We are all grateful for all you do.
Christmas
Offerings Each Christmas season the
Benefice selects a charity to support.
This year, having received an urgent message from Bishop Stanley, we
have decided to support the Primary School in Arusha, Tanzania. There are 20
students who are unable to continue their education after Christmas as their
parents are not able to pay the fees. It
would be great if we could see a few of those students return to school in the
New Year. Each year costs from £150 to
£200 per child depending on which class they are in (infants £150 and juniors
£200). There will be offerings taken and a box will be placed at the back of
each church if you would like to give to this cause.
Carol Service at St Mary’s, Carlton Curlieu Everyone is welcome
to the Service on Tuesday 20th December at 7.00 pm.
Ladies Night Out The January LNO will be on Wednesday 11th at Grange Farm Oadby at 7.30pm If y ou are interested or need a lift please
contact Carole Henson 01162403368 hensonc@talk21.com
Quiet Prayer
And Meditation 3.30 pm on Wednesday, January 11th
at 20 Kingfisher Close, Great Glen. New members are encouraged and will be made
very welcome. More information from Christine Higgins, Tel. 259 2624.
The
Christmas Tree Festival
was a great success with a total of 51 unique trees having been entered.
The winner of the Favourite Junior Tree was Lottie and Lawrence King's 'The
more it snows tiddely Pom Pom’ and they won an engraved trophy. In
2nd place was Stoneygate School Pre Prep's 'The Leicester Citree' and 3rd was
St Cuthbert's School's 'Christmas boxed up'.The winner of the Favourite Adult
Tree was The Broughton Family's ‘We adoor Christmas’, and they won a £25 Marks
and Spencer voucher. In 2nd place was 'Haberdashery-a-tree' by Louisa
Rawlings and Zoe Williamson and 3rd was Fran Brown's 'I'll be home for
Christmas'.
The event raised over £8500 in total,
to be divided between the nominated charity this year, Aplastic Anaemia
Society, a rare blood disorder which affects people locally, St Andrew's Church
and Burton Overy Village Hall.
Thank you very much for supporting
this event in such large numbers.
