news in the pews

Sunday 16th December – 3rd of Advent

Collect for Today
God for whom we watch and wait,
you sent John the Baptist to prepare the way of your Son:
give us courage to speak the truth,
to hunger for justice,
and to suffer for the cause of right,
with Jesus Christ our Lord.

Post Communion Prayer
We give you thanks, O Lord,
for these heavenly gifts;
kindle in us the fire of your Spirit
that when your Christ comes again
we may shine as lights before his face;
who is alive and reigns
now and for ever.

NOTICES

Nine Lessons and Carols,
16th December at 6:30pm,
with the Festive Singers Choir from Great Glen & Burton Overy,
f
ollowed by mulled wine and mince pies. You are invited to join us for a night of carols and celebration as we get ready for Christmas.

Travelling Nativity
We have been given a wonderful gift of a knitted nativity from the ladies of the WI. So I would like to start a new tradition of getting lots of different people involved in a 'travelling nativity.' The idea is we have a bag with activities, the Christmas story and of course the nativity people and animals. You will have the nativity for 24 hours and during that time you can take pictures of what the different characters get up to, you can take them to the different places you go. There are prayers to go with it and when the 24 hours it’s up you take the bag of things to the next person on the list. The idea is to keep them travelling during advent and the last person on the list will bring the set to the Family Crib Service on Sunday the 23rd of Dec at 10:30am. There will be extra sheep in the bag and each family can keep a sheep and bring that with them to add to the nativity scene on the 23rd

If you are interested in being part of this group that meets together to go deeper in the understanding of Christ and his word, please come and talk to Kim or Linda for more details.

Sound and Vision
We are now developing more services using sound and vision; using the digital projector and mixing the sound through the sound desk. We are keen to get more people involved in helping to set up and "tech" some of these services both at St Andrew's and St Cuthbert's. If you think this is something you could help with, please speak to Dave or Simon.

Collect for Sunday 23rd December
Eternal God,
as Mary waited for the birth of your Son,
so we wait for his coming in glory;
bring us through the birth pangs of this present age to see, with her, our great salvation in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Post Communion Prayer
Heavenly Father,
who chose the Blessed Virgin Mary
to be the mother of the promised saviour: fill us your servants with your grace, that in all things we may embrace your holy will and with her rejoice in your salvation; through Jesus Christ our Lord

Collect for Sunday 30th December
God in Trinity,
eternal unity of perfect love:
gather the nations to be one family,
and draw us into your holy life
through the birth of Emmanuel,

our Lord Jesus Christ.

Post Communion Prayer
Heavenly Father,
whose blessed Son shared at Nazareth the life of an earthly home:
help your Church to live as one family,
united in love and obedience,
and bring us all at last to our home
in heaven;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
