A Coffee Morning and Bring & Buy in aid of LOROS

St Cuthbert’s Church needs a new deputy churchwarden. Please give serious
consideration as to whether you might be able to help the church in this way. For more information about the work involved, please speak to the vicar, current churchwardens and deputy churchwardens. The Annual Parish Meeting will be held on Sunday, 11th April 2010, in the evening after a short Songs of Praise at 6.30 p.m. Please do come and join our discussions as we review the past year and contemplate the next. Nomination papers for PCC members and churchwardens are at the back of church – please leave completed nomination papers in the envelope provided.

Back to Church Sunday – The Mission Partnership is running a training about this at St Cuthbert’s Church at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday, 21st April. Please can all churchwardens, sidesmen, etc attend this if possible so we can decide whether to take part in this growing national annual event.

Sunday Children’s Work and Technology Team – Both teams could do with an extra member or two. If you could give a little help to this important work, please contact the vicar or those involved.

St Cuthbert’s Church Cleaning – We desperately need more volunteers for this. If you can help, even if only once or twice a year, please put your name down for a date or two on the list at the back of the church.

At the recent Burton Overy and Carlton Curlieu Annual Meeting, the churchwardens were elected for the coming year. Burton Overy elected Richard Bloor and David Pease and Carlton elected Sir Geoffrey and Lady Clarissa Palmer. Thanks were expressed to Paul Hadfield for his three years in office and also to Julie Kirk who stepped down as Secretary. Nicola Langton has taken on the role of Secretary. Kit Burrows was re-elected Treasurer to the joint Parish and to Burton Overy DCC and Jonathan Brankin-Frisby Treasurer to Carlton Curlieu DCC.

Battlefield Ethics for the 21st Century – The Far and Near Club Lecture by Canon Dr Giles Fraser takes place on Thursday, 15th April, at 6.15 p.m. at Leicester Cathedral. What challenges does the contemporary operating environment pose for our understanding of what ethics look like? And can a rule-based approach to ethics cope with the demands of the modern battlefield? Canon Dr Giles Fraser is Chancellor of St Paul’s Cathedral and teaches ethics and leadership for the British Army at the Defence Academy in Shrivenham, Wiltshire. He writes a column in the Church Times and is a familiar voice to many from BBC Radio 4’s Thought for the Day. The lecture will be followed by questions and a drinks reception. Free. All Welcome.

General Election Hustings takes place on Tuesday, 20th April at 7.30 p.m. at Trinity Methodist Church, Harborough Road, Oadby. The three main candidates for the Harborough Constituency - Edward Garnier (Conservative), Zaffar Haq (Liberal Democrat) and Kevin McKeever (Labour) - have accepted the Rural Dean’s (Michael Rusk) invitation to speak and answer questions.
