NOTICES
New Churchwardens – At the recent AGMs, David Graves and Chris Otway were elected to serve as St Cuthbert’s Churchwardens and Richard Bloor and David Pease were elected as churchwardens for St Andrew’s at Burton Overy. We owe a great deal of thanks to David Webster, Kimberley Tyler and Paul Hadfield who have worked hard for their churches during their time as churchwardens, and we welcome our new churchwardens and thank them for agreeing to take up this important role for the next few years.

Back to Church Sunday – The Mission Partnership is running a training about this at St Cuthbert’s Church at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday, 21st April. Please can all churchwardens, sidesmen, etc attend this if possible so we can decide whether to take part in this growing national annual event.

Rogation Sunday Pilgrimage this year is on Sunday, 2nd May. Programme and route maps are now available at the back of church – more will be printed on request. Do come and join us for part or all of the day – it’s a lovely sociable event – you can even join us just for lunch (BYO) at Burton Overy Village Hall or for tea and cakes after the short service at St Cuthbert’s Church at the end of the day. Times on the programme are approximate! Bring your friends to enjoy this day.

Thanks are due to everyone who decorated our churches for Easter – they were a picture (and still are)!

The LOROS Coffee Morning held at Anne Folwell’s house raised £240. thanks to everyone who contributed to this event. LOROS does such good work amongst us.

General Election Hustings takes place on Tuesday, 20th April at 7.30 p.m. in the Manor School at Oadby (please note change of venue). This gives voters in the Harborough Constituency an opportunity to hear and question prospective Parliamentary Candidates. The democratic process is important and that through such a process the views and policies of political parties and their policies can be aired, considered and questioned. Therefore all candidates standing in the Harborough Constituency have been invited. You will have the opportunity to hear what they have to say, question them, and ultimately decide who you want to vote for on 6th May.

Christian Aid Week takes place this year from Sunday, 9th May, until Saturday, 15th May. We desperately need volunteers to deliver and collect envelopes during that week. The money raised is vital for the help that is provided to poor and disadvantaged people across the world. If you are able to help, please contact Carol Neal on 259 2988.

A concert by the choir of Merton College, Oxford takes place on Saturday, 1st May at 7.30 p.m. at St Wilfrid’s Church, Kibworth. The choir will sing a varied programme but with Peter Philips on the rostrum we may expect some of the Renaissance period music for which he is known throughout the world. Tickets are priced at £7.50 for unreserved seats, or £10. for reserved premium seating and are available from Kibworth Post Office, Ireland and Longhill or by telephoning 279 2493 for them to be posted without extra charge. Part of the concert will be recorded for the BBC to be included in the six-part programme “English Story” about the Kibworths and their history dating back to Roman times and will be presented by the historian Michael Wood and broadcast later this year.

UK-Japan Music Society Spring Recital takes place on Saturday, 24th April, at 7 p.m. at St Dionysius Church, Market Harborough. Admissions are £7. (£5. for concessions and children free).

Children during the 10.30 a.m. Communion Services are invited to move into the north aisle (whether at Glen or Burton) after the Gloria to engage with the day’s bible story in ways that they will appreciate. They rejoin their parents in the pews at The Peace.

A Personal Perspective on Palestine Kairos by Nora Karmi is at Bishop Street Methodist Church on Friday, 23rd April at 1 p.m. and at the Church of the Martyrs on Westcotes Drive, Leicester at 7.30 p.m. Nora Karmi, a Palestinian Christian from Jerusalem, was one of eight women honoured in Jerusalem in 2008 for her more than forty years as a community builder. Internationally, she is involved with the World Week of Prayer for Palestine and Israel and is a member of the steering committee of Christian Peacemaker Teams. She is a founder member of Sabeel Jerusalem and is a Sabeel Co-ordinator for community building and women’s programmes. Hear her personal perspective on the recent Palestine Kairos.

Lifts to Services – If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton Overy and they will arrange one for you.
