If you are a communicant member of a Christian Church, you are welcome to come up to receive the bread and wine. Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing. Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing. If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

NOTICES
Salvation Army Band Concert – The Leicester South Salvation Army Band under their conductor, John Broadhurst, will be giving a concert in St Cuthbert’s Church at 7 p.m. on Saturday, 9th October. The programme will offer a variety of musical styles with something to suit everyone’s taste and will last a little over two hours including an interval. Proceeds from the concert will be going to St Cuthbert’s Church. The cost will be £8. per adult and £2. per child. Refreshments will be provided for donations.
Great Glen Harvest Festival is on the 10th October. There is an All-Age Service at 10.30 a.m. and a Harvest Lunch in church from 12.30 p.m. onwards. This year, we are having a bring-and-share lunch – everybody very welcome! There will also be a traditional Harvest Evensong Service at 6.30 p.m. so that during the day lots of people can enjoy the harvest decorations which are always so beautiful! The produce will be going to Women’s Aid.
All Sorts @ School is going Messy! So we need old men’s shirts for the children to use as overalls – if you have any please given them to Mary, Tessa Mynott or Carole Henson. Next service is Thursday 14th October.
St Cuthbert’s Church Building – Due to childish vandalism, Ecclesiastical Insurance has agreed that for the time being the church can be left open during school hours. This means that it will be locked at the weekend and during school holidays apart from when there is a service or other activities in the church. The church does not need to be locked when adults are present, e.g. cleaning, arranging flowers, etc. BUT please remember that while you are in church, both vestry doors must be locked.
New Lighting has been installed in the north aisle of St Cuthbert’s Church including two extra lights that are operated by a sensor that turns them on when anyone walks in through the north door (they stay on for 20 minutes). The sensor and lights are controlled by the switch labelled ‘Altar Spot’ behind the north door – this must be switched OFF when the rest of the lights are put on, and switched back ON when everyone leaves the church after a service or other event.
Provost Derek Hole Annual Public Lecture takes place on Thursday, 28th October, at 5.30 p.m. at the Ken Edwards Building, Lecture Theatre 1. The lecture is entitled “Living the Virtues in a Time of Austerity” with The Most Reverend Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster (and President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference and Head of the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales). This lecture is open to all.
Christ in the Centre 2011 Casting Workshop – For those who might like to take part, this is on Saturday, 30th October 2010, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at St Andrew’s Church, Jarrom Street, Leicester, LE2 7DH (by the Leicester Royal Infirmary). Scripts and rehearsal schedules will be handed out (rehearsals start in New Year). If you are interested, contact Hilary Ayling on 0796 331 1210 or email hilary.citc@gmail.com
Evening Prayer at St Helen’s, Gumley is preceded by a short historical talk and takes place on Saturday, 9th October at 3 p.m. This is a Prayer Book Society event and the talk will be given by Derek Lewin. The service will be taken by the Rev. Ian Johnson and will be followed by refreshments served in the Village Hall. All are most welcome.
Festival of Art and Flowers takes place on Sat & Sun, 9th & 10th October, 10am – 4pm. in All Saints Church, Husbands Bosworth from. Admission free but donations welcome. Refreshments available.
Children during the 10.30 a.m. Communion Services are invited to move into the north aisle (whether at Glen or Burton) after the Gloria to engage with the day’s bible story in ways that they will appreciate. They rejoin their parents in the pews at The Peace.
Lifts to Services – If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton Overy and they will arrange one for you.
Keeping people in touch – Please do take copies of this news-sheet to anyone you know who might be interested, especially to those who can’t get to church at the moment.
Humour is a gift: Conversation in Year 6 class about which secondary school they might go to:
1st Boy: “My dad wants me to go to School A but my mum wants me to go to School B”
2nd Boy: “Oh, you’ll be going to School B then.”
1st Boy: “How do you know that?”
2nd Boy: “Mothers are always right!”
Please pray:-
· For all who are ill or suffering.
· For those in our community who need our love and support.
· For students in their first days at university.
· For our village builders, plumbers, electricians, and undertakers and their staff.
Proverb of the Week: “A person without self-control is as defenceless as a city with broken-down walls.” (Proverbs 25 v28)
