Otherwise you are welcome to either remain in your seat or come up to receive a blessing. Keeping your hands down by your side will signify to the Vicar that you wish to receive a blessing. If you have difficulty coming up to the Communion Rail and would like the Vicar to come to you, then please inform a sidesman.

NOTICES
All Sorts goes Messy at School! All Sorts needs men’s old shirts for the children to use as overalls – if you have any, please give them to Mary, Tessa Mynott or Carole Henson as soon as possible!– The next All Sorts service is at St Cuthbert’s Primary School on Thursday, 14th October. We meet in the community lounge for refreshments before starting our service and messy activities which will be suitable for children from a few months to eleven years old. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult – why not bring your friends’ children if they can’t come themselves!
All Souls Service is on Tuesday, 2nd November, at 7.30 p.m. at St Cuthbert’s Church. A gentle service for those who wish to remember the loved ones they have lost. During the service there is an opportunity to light a candle in their memory and the names of loved ones are read out during the service. Letters of invitation are sent out to all those who have been bereaved in the last two years, but all are very welcome.
Did you know that the church has a service of Thanksgiving for the Birth of a Child? This enables families to celebrate the birth of their child in a special way. We will be having a Thanksgiving within the 10.30 a.m. All-Age Service on Sunday, 21st November, and within the Christingle Service at 4 p.m. on 12th December, both at St Cuthbert’s Church.
Congratulations to Cameron Masters, Ben Parkinson, Evee Kirk and Harriet Gill of Team BOGG who won the junior section of the Rutland Water Grand Challenge (canoeing, orienteering, climbing and raft building). Well done to the other BOGG teams too.
Christian Praise at De Montfort Hall – Shall we go on Tuesday, 26th, or Wednesday, 27th October? The speaker on Tuesday is Rachel Hickson, who heads up Heartcry Ministries, and speaks to inspire the Church with a message about the nature and importance of prayer. The speaker on Wednesday is Steve Gaukroger who is back after his amazing visit in 2009 to speak at the Wednesday night event which will have a focus on outreach - bring all those contacts from your Church fringe! If you would like to go, please speak to Mary.
St Cuthbert’s Church Building – Due to childish vandalism, Ecclesiastical Insurance has agreed that for the time being the church can be left open during school hours. This means that it will be locked at the weekend and during school holidays apart from when there is a service or other activities in the church. The church does not need to be locked when adults are present, e.g. cleaning, arranging flowers, etc. BUT please remember that while you are in church, both vestry doors must be locked.
New Lighting has been installed in the north aisle of St Cuthbert’s Church including two extra lights that are operated by a sensor that turns them on when anyone walks in through the north door (they stay on for 20 minutes). The sensor and lights are controlled by the switch labelled ‘Altar Spot’ behind the north door – this must be switched OFF when the rest of the lights are put on, and switched back ON when everyone leaves the church after a service or other event.
Home for Christmas? Would you share your festivities with an international student at a UK university who might otherwise be stuck on an empty campus? HOST is looking for invitations for two or three days for students from China and many other countries. Hosting makes a
worthwhile contribution to international goodwill. Please see www.hostuk.org or call HOST on 020 7739 6292.
Seeking county’s oldest graffiti! The Leicester Mercury and Leicestershire Chronicle are looking for the city and county’s oldest graffiti. Often the churches have the scratch marks of our ancestors. Do you know of any scratchings (writing or drawing) that pre-date 1950 or are interesting in their own right? Inside The Magazine Gateway in Leicester (Built 1400) there’s graffiti on a wall, dated January, 1564: “I am in prison by other men’s conscience and not my own”. If you know of any worthy graffiti, please e-mail: catherineturnell@leicestermercury.co.uk or ring her on 0116 222 4221. Catherine is also writing a feature on the city and county’s most notable gravestones. Any help is greatly received.
Children during the 10.30 a.m. Communion Services are invited to move into the north aisle (whether at Glen or Burton) after the Gloria to engage with the day’s bible story in ways that they will appreciate. They rejoin their parents in the pews at The Peace.
Lifts to Services – If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton Overy and they will arrange one for you.
Humour is a gift: Children’s Questions:
“Dear God, it is great the way you always get the stars in the right place. Why can’t you do that with the moon? Jeff”
Please pray:-
· For all who are ill or suffering.
· For those who have lost loved ones.
· For our local farmers.
· For the victims of the Pakistan floods and those trying to help.
