Beetle Drives are fun – Would anyone like to organise one for St Cuthbert’s Church? They are very easy to organise, perhaps by one or two people working together.
Advent Service of Light - Come and enjoy this candlelit service of hymns
and readings with the choir at St Cuthbert’s Church at 6.30 p.m. on Sunday, 28th November – a good way of starting our preparations for the run-up to Christmas.
All Sorts @ School – The next service is on Thursday, 18th November, from 3.30 – 4.30 p.m. in the Community Lounge at St Cuthbert’s School. We start with a drink, biscuits and fruit for the children which allows time for children to be gathered from different classrooms or to join us from other schools. They enjoy a messy creative time as well as a bible story, prayers and singing – DO come and join us with any children of 0 – 11 years old!
General Synod – We now have our very own representative on General Synod!! Congratulations to Anne Bloor who was recently elected as one of Leicester Diocese’s three lay members – so now if you want to know what goes on at the top level of decision making in the Church of England, just ask Anne – her first Synod is the 22nd – 24th November.
Wanted for the Christmas Tree Festival – Do you have unwanted CDs or DVDs cluttering up your shelves. We’d like to sell them on our Book Stall at the Christmas Tree Festival in Burton Overy. Please let Joan Stephens have them (259 2210). Also we need extension leads for lighting the Christmas Trees. If you can spare any for the Festival, we would be very grateful. Please leave them in Burton Overy church during the week commencing Monday, 29th November, clearly marked with your name. Greenery – If you can spare any ivy from your garden, please leave outside Burton Overy church door over the weekend of November 27th/28th. The Flower Club would be very grateful.
Cards for Good Causes are now on sale at Leicester Cathedral and St Dionysius Church, Market Harborough. 70p in every pound goes to the good cause as opposed to a few pence from charity cards bought in retail shops.
‘Angels Fayre’ at St Wilfrid’s, Kibworth takes place on Saturday, 20th November from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will be lots of stalls, books, wonderful garden gifts, chocolate, cakes, etc. crafts for children, face-painting and refreshments – all with an ‘angely’ feel. Please support this event which is raising funds for M.U. ‘Chalet Holidays.’ If you have any interesting goods to sell, why not hire a table for £15.? Please call Eunice Hayes on 0116 279 6154 for information.
Do you need ideas for Burton Overy’s Christmas Tree Festival? Why not go to one of these the weekend before, 26th-28th November, at St Botolph’s, Shepshed; Christchurch at Mountsorrel or All Saints at Husbands Bosworth.
The Bishop’s Lay Congress 2010 takes place on Saturday, 27th November, 9.15 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. It is entitled “A Spirituality for the 21st Century : Thriving on our faith in challenging times” with guest speaker the Rt Revd Gordon Mursell, former Bishop of Stafford and a well-known preacher, author and tutor in spirituality.
Books available from Church House – A wide range of non-fiction books including histories of Leicestershire and its churches, collections of General Synod reports, and essays on philosophy and spirituality. They will be available to inspect in the Resources Room at Church House from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on 17th, 18th and 19th November and 24th, 25th and 26th November.
Children during the 10.30 a.m. Communion Services are invited to move into the north aisle (whether at Glen or Burton) after the Gloria to engage with the day’s bible story in ways that they will appreciate. They rejoin their parents in the pews at The Peace.
Lifts to Services – If you need a lift to any of our services, please contact Howard Bartlett (259 3747) at Glen or Richard Bloor (259 2440) at Burton Overy and they will arrange one for you.
Hearing Loop – St Andrew’s Church at Burton Overy now has a hearing loop as part of the loudspeaker system. If you wear a hearing aid, adjust the switch to the T position and you will hear the service clearly.
Humour is a gift: Church bulleting bloopers:
“Bertha Belch, a missionary from Africa will be speaking tonight at Calvary Memorial Church in Racine. Come tonight and hear Bertha Belch all the way from Africa”.
Please pray:-
· For all who are ill or suffering.
· For the families and friends who have lost loved ones.
· For all those feeling the recent colder weather.
· For positive results from the Prime Minister’s visit to China.
· For the Christians being targeted by terrorists in Iraq.
Proverb of the Week: “Everyone admires a person with good sense, but a warped mind is despised.” (Proverbs 12 v8)
